color calibrate on two VDU's after lion upgrade

Hi,

I have just upgraded my Mac Pro from Snow Lepeord to Lion. All seems to have gone well after the 33min upgrade process completed.

Just noticed that my two identical BenQ HDMI attached monitors are showing different colours (colors) / apprearance. I have tried to change the setting in Display parameters, but although two calibrate windows appear, the right (primary desktop) screen is the only one affected by any changes, even if I try to change the left screen options box.

If I create a new calibration profile, no matter whether I select it on the left or the right screen, you can not independantly select a profile for an individual screen.

Seems to be a problem that has just come with Lion. Has anybody else seen similiar issues, and know a fix or work around?

Just ran the ColorSync application and it reports an error with the dfault BenQ profile

When I Verify:

Checking 60 profiles...

/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays/BenQ V2400Eco-000009D1-0000-7D02-0000-544500000000.icc

Tag 'cprt': Text tag has an incorrect length.

Verify done - found 1 bad profile.

When I Repair:

Searching for profiles...

Checking 60 profiles...

/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays/BenQ V2400Eco-000009D1-0000-7D02-0000-544500000000.icc

Tag 'cprt': Text tag has an incorrect length.

The file is locked. Could not be fixed.

Repair done - 0 out of 1 profiles fixed.

10.7.3 and the bug is still there. I have sent Apple feedback twice, in 10.7 and in 10.7.1. Three versions later and still no fix. The workaround works for me but its annoying. Dual VDU's still not working with separate color profiles in Lion.

Glad the work around does work for you, but is annoying to have to apply it after every restart/logout...

Maybe we should start a new discussion specific to this particular problem?

The original post seemed to suggest that the problem was with a corrupt color profile; the problem most of us are experiencing is the inability for OSX Lion to properly distinguish from two identical displays/monitors.

I just thought I'd let everyone know that I fixed this issue. Unfortunately, no thanks to apple I had to go out and buy a new monitor to replace one of the duplicates so that I could use my workstation for what its designed to do.

Thanks apple for the help with this issue. Wait, what help? The invoice for the new monitor is in the mail.

Wow, it's been since Jul 2011 that I realised this issue, and it still doesn't have a fix !

Clearly Apple don't care much for people using 3rd party monitors. I wonder if the problem exists with dual Apple VDU's attached??

Very disappointing to not have had a patch for this clear bug in the OS. And now it's passed over to Mountain Lion as well. I won't be 'upgrading' to ML.

Hi,

I also wrestled with this problem for a long time now but I think I found a solution.

I'm using:

- MAC pro 2x2.4 Hgz quad core intel xeon

- Software is 10.7.5

- X-rite I-display pro screen calibrator

- 2 x 24inch screen Samsung Syncmaster BX 2440 connected via DVI connection. Exactly the same screens

So what have I done:

Step 1

- Shut down MAC

- Connect only screen #1 to output 1

- Calibrate that screen with X-rite and save profile under something like screen-1

- DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING under screen preference like colors etc

- Close all prg's and shut down computer

Step 2

- Disconnect screen 1 - or switch off so MAC only sees 1 screen

- Connect screen #2

- Calibrate that screen with X-rite and save profile under something like screen-2

- DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING under screen preference like colors etc

- Close all prg's and agin shut down computer

Step 3

- Now Connect both screens to the cables or connection on which you did the calibration. so no swapping.

- Start up your MAC

- Your colors now should look exactly the same on both screens.

- Done and DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING under screen preference like colors etc.

On my siutation the result was excellent. I always had problems with inconsistant colors between the screens. Left screen was always greenish and teh right screen always reddish instead of grey.

If this procedure is OK for other situations I really do not know but I thought I let you all know and maybe help.
