Hi everyone!
Safari become very lag when I open a new tab or pages, and when I checked Activity Monitor, the one that made my mac lag is Safari Web Content, it can eats 80-90% of CPU.However, it only happened if I open new tab/pages. I never experienced lag with other browser such as Firefox before.
Anyone ever experienced this? Any suggestion or solution will be appreciated.

I had exactly the same issue!! 100% CPU on Safari Web Content. the site causing it was an oxford university Mirror hosting site.. I reset safari.. nothing. I formatted my HDD and clean installed mavericks. opened safari with just my Apple ID registered... nothing changed! after a minute or 2 it was 100 % again.. spoke to many tech guys and nobody could figure out what it was!
I was sat at my mac this morning making another Install USB for mavericks and decided to clean up my bookmarks and reading list entries..
There it was!! An XBMC download link in my reading list!! Deleted it and PROBLEM IS SOLVED!!
This has done my head in for a few weeks! been using google chrome ever since! ive now deleted it and i hope this can help others figure out the issues with their own machines!!

I narrowed the problem down to staying signed in to my Google account...when I signed out CPU usage dropped dramatically.
Incredible. I found my way here with the same issues and simply logging out of Google fixed the issue. That is some impressively bad code.

Not only does it seem to be signing into Google that does it but sitting signed in to Tumblr does it too. I wonder if it is the self updating that isn't working with something.
The solution is to switch to google chrome, I switched over a year ago and have never looked back. Sad that Apple could screw up something as basic as a browser.
The latest version of Chrome is slow as **** and not very useful...
Well, not exactly the answer I hoped for, but I will give it a try. It's a pitty that Apple didn't manage to solve the problem for over one year...

Go back a page or two in the discussion and you'll see that many of us solved the problem by not remaining logged into our Google accounts. I did that, and Safari now works fine for me.
BTW, it's back now after disabling Java. Safari is unusable after about 15 seconds of being open.
And, PS. The hardware is not computer related nor memory related.
It is their website that triggers a huge memory leak in Safari.
Nope.. didn't change much .. still had to keep killing the process to get my memory back ...

I don't know, I just signed out of Google, and neither my Safari or Safari Web Content went down at all... Oh, and what is "Google FFS"?

I have already Click2Flash, in the past I have switched it on and off to see a difference, nothing conclusive 😟
