Wifi Constantly Dropping in Lion

Since upgrading my Fall 2009 21.5" iMac to Lion my wifi connection will drop out about every minute and the I have to turn Wifi off and then back on to get it to connect again. Is there any known way to fix this? Any suggestions will be appreciated

Thanks

Yes, Simsonic, I did call Apple. As I stated in an earlier post, the rep told me that if the solution he offered didn't work then there was nothing else he could suggest. Well, what he suggested didn't work. I tried everyting the rep suggested and everything that was suggested on this forum and one other. The only thing that held a connection even temporarily was pinging a server. Toward the end even that was not working. My WiFi and my Ethernet experienced identical conditions. What finally worked was installing 10.7.1. And, as you can see from the notes posted here, installing 10.7.1 hasn't worked for some people.

Ok, I wrote a cuple of pages back, that a clean install of Lion would have solved my problems....it did...for like 7hrs the mashine was running perfect. After that it was worse than before....

After Logic then crashes all the time and some Plugins made problems, I brought the Snow Leopard back in Business....I also wrote the Appstore Support an email about a possible refund....and surprise I got my Money back. I guess they are fully aware of all the problems and bugs... So now I am using my iMac with SL and maybe I try Lion again in a year or so.

So, the only way all works perfect is to be patient and wait for a later built of Lion.

All this just cost me about 30hrs of life....backing up and reinstalling for a few times....

I believe it has something to do with the Network software part of Lion; I was watching the Network system preferences window, and before my eyes, the DHCP lease failed to renew. When that happened, the IP address falls off the proverbial cliff, and then, poof! No Internet. Airport network is up and running as pretty as you please. A short time later, the DHCP lease renews, IP address is restored, and I'm free to surf once more... until it happens again 20 minutes later. This is where the fault lies, I think. Any thoughts? Any fixes?

This morning, i did an upgrade to 10.7.1. intially i thought the wifi problem has being fixed. but after 30mins while i am still actively surfing the internet, the internet connection goes off....

And until a few minutes ago I thought the .1 upgrade had fixed my problem. Then I realized that Mail wasn't sending a message. I went to my browser, and it was the same old story: the computer had lost its connection to the Internet. I had to go through the diagnostics. Couldn't make my Ehternet connection work, but I finally go a connection back via WiFi.

Apple, this is NOT acceptable. This is a load of crap, in fact. Fix it. And don't wait a month to do it.

Hi guys,

I am from Germany and was looking for help in this forum.

Same problems over here, by the way.

I called Apple, they called me back and wrote e-mails etc., but nothing helps.

I keep losing my WiFi connection several times a day.

Nobody seems to know what it is.

Fact is that I never ever had any problems before I upgraded to Lion.

What is this?

Why can Apple not fix this?

Don't they read posts like this?

Don't they have guys who know how to write stable programs?

I really don't get it.

Certainly Apple is aware of this problem--it's been widely discussed as one of the most irritating problems with Lion. I agree that it's really hard to imagine they adequately tested Lion on any platform and didn't come across this problem. I had the misfortune of having a computer die a week before the new OS came out, so I have a brand new Mac that shipped with Lion and is suffering just like all the upgraded computers.

Was having wi-fi drop issue with my late 2009 iMac. Full wi-fi bars all the time, but connection would drop all the time. tried all the suggestions in this thread to no avail.

updated to 10.7.1, deleted preferred networks, then added my home network back on. Was online for 12+ hours and thought 10.7.1 fixed the problem. Now it has just dropped again. Same behavior: full wifi bars, but no connectivity. So frustrating! Never had any issues under Snow Leopard.

As a lifetime Windows user and a frequent (recently, more frequently with all the new Apple hardware I now own) Mac user, I started thinking to myself how Lion could be Apple's "Vista". I stumbled upon an article by someone with the same conclusion.

I think Apple needs to figure out some of these problems and get Lion working correctly, lest we all will be waiting for 10.8!

tomo-

When your connection drops (and you still have full WiFi bars), can you try to ping a dns address like, www.google.com? If you can ping that address, but other apps like Safari, mail etc cannot get out, then you do not have a wireless issue rather a stack issue.

If you find you have a stack issue, I would call AppleCare post haste and tell them about this experiment.
