Lion Finder sidebar color?

Hey!

I've just upgraded to Lion and I'm kinda dissapointed of many reasons, like the grey aweful sidebar icons in the finder app.

Is there any solution to change it back to the normal like it was in Snow Leopard?

The other thing is the Mail app. The new surface looks horrible as well, even if I change it to "classical view".

I want the older back! It was good as it was!

There is no way of adding color unless there is a third party solution out there. Grey is the new color!

I agree, the colors need to be restored. Grey has historically, in almost every GUI ever released been the color to indicate that an option is not available. When Apple removed the colors, the effect is that it's all "greyed out" and that's not very user friendly. And to be honest, makes it all look very boring.

At least with Lion we have the option to set the size of the icons in the sidebar. Why did it take so long?

(WARNING: if you use largest size you will all see how ugly the icons are)

It's amazing how Apple, who used to focus on even the smallest details obviously don't care about these things anymore. It's really disappointing.

That use to work back in previous versions but I tried changing them when I upgraded to Lion and they stayed the same. It's weird though, when you are on Finder and select Go the icons that are in the sidebar are colorized. Please Apple, when you release your the first patch update, either give us the option to turn the colors back on, or have the colors restored. I'm loving Lion but the sidebar icons need to be restored in ever application that has them.

I second the emotion. This sudden lack of color in sidebar icons is inexplicable and disappointing.

I am always surprised at the way certain functions or buttons are changed with new releases of this company's software. What was once its own button suddenly gets transformed into a contextual menu, or its color changes, or it's moved to some other menu, or .... it always seems to happen, with no explanation or guidance. Keeps us on our toes, anyway.

Sigh.

I don't think Candy bar seems to be effective for changing the icons in lion. I agree with everyone, the great icons are hopeless. In fact I had loads of problems particularly in the I upgraded my MacBook Pro and my iMac and they can no longer connect to each other on the network. Also all my early Adobe products no longer work, and I lost all my address book contacts on my iMac even though they're on MobileMe they simply won't synchronise back in. I have down graded that to Snow Leopard!

I agree with this. Also, paying $30 just to fix a broken feature in a $30 system update also seems disproportinate.

I find that colour makes visual identification faster, than the light gray outlines used. Also, for my volumes they each have a custom icon so I can identify they without needing to read their name. This functionality is lost, unless I go through to the desktop or the 'computer' folder.

There is an option to scale the sidebar icons in the system preferences, so why not add one for colour sidebar icons?

+1 To adding an option to have colour icons in the side bars.

Looks like Apple have put a grey mask on the icons, that's why they show as colour in finder view and grey in the sidebar.

It's so frustrating and for visually impaired people like my parents, it's the difference between being able to use the OS or not.

I love the full screen options & extra gestures in Lion, so making it so difficult to read is just terrible.

Making everything look the same doesn't make it more 'refined' or 'professional' at all. There is absolutely nothing professional about a GUI that's difficult to read - that's just utter nonsense.

Please Apple, give us an option to have colour icons back in the finder side bar, just a checkbox is all it would take, then EVERYONE would be happy.

Thank you

PS: Please put the sidebar icons back in the correct positions too. The Devices Pane shouldn't be at the bottom of the sidebar, it should be at the top! 😟

I would also appreciate it if Apple let us rearrange the sidebar sections - not just the elements in each section. DEVICES, SHARED and PLACES (now called FAVORITES in LIon) is an order that works better for me to get to several external drives and other systems on network.

+1 for this as a Preference option.

Akula971 - can you tell us how you were able to move the section headings in a sidear?

I totally agree! It looks like Apple hates colors.

Remember the original little apple on top of the Apple menu? Remember its colors? Things of the past…

Remember the nice folder icons that came with Tiger?

They kept getting more gray, ugly and shabby with Leopard and Snow and now...

Now a blind person is in charge of the graphical elements: it's a shame.
