Lion Finder sidebar color?

If you get information on them you will note the previews are colour.

There are no separate grey icons in your machine - try searching for them.

The full colour icons required additional coding in Lion to wash out the colours to grey.

I have seen this mentioned on several posts so it would seem to be relatively simple to provide an option even if it required manually updating a plist or something.

Saying you prefer grey over colour is kind of a stretch don't you think?

I didn't commite them to memory however in the first two pages of this rather long thread now are references with the implication.

But nice try, how about you post the location in the Mac's file system of the monochrome icons so we can easily change them to colour (by replacing with the same name)?

That is what I though you meant, the gray does not bother you but wanted to be sure.

The gray icons in the side bar are really the least of it, it used to be easy to tell when a menu item was grayed out, now it is so close in shading it is hard to tell.

Add to that all the connection issues (if you have not had any, lucky you), next is trying to troubleshoot issues. The user Library now needs a third party hack to see. I understand that many people need a nannie, I am not one of them.

Just like what Apple did to iMovie, it stinks, Final Cut? Apple wised up on that one and rewrote it to Final Cut Pro X. Good thing too, many were very close to tossing Macs and Apple for Adobe and Windows.

Pages, Numbers and Keynote were successes and translate well to the iOS as does iMovie in iOS form.

Apple has done many users a disservice with Lion and some software, insulting really.

Let users make up their own mind whether to have color icons and user Library. If a user screws it up then let the user deal with it.

Macintosh was color when Windows was gray, Macs were point and click and Windows was DOS. Now Macs are gray and ugly, Windows has stayed true with color where it belongs.

I can't stand Windows, they make everything way harder than it needs to be, Apple is now following but being subtle about it.

I really don't like the 'Get Lion or No iCloud' except if you have Windows in many of its flavors.

I am a long time Mac user, 1989 is when I started, I know them inside and out from system 6 to now, Copland was much nicer than Lion for pretty.

Mission Control (bad joke), Launch Pad (what were they thinking, hangover day?), reopen all windows or apps on restart (what?) like I want all I closed to reopen.

I guess we can attribute a lot of this to Al Gore.

Oh and Pete, I see you have over 1,000 points so you are here a lot and post often, I don't as I don't have the time much.

You sound like you have seen many versions of OSs and you find the gray to be OK, that is a deal breaker for me along with all the other junk. Color gone to save a few KB of code? Put a smaller gas tank in your car to save weight, really shortens the legs though.

Didn't think you could supply them and nice try to twist it around. lol

I never made any claims. I love colour. A dozen little grey icons don't worry me. Everything else I have is colour.

That submises my comments.

So please find the other millions like you and get them all to complain to Apple.

No, I'm not privy to the coding of SL vs. Lion, but I do code websites (manually), and am learning other programming. So it's not a huge leap to assume that when I open a finder window and I see my icons in the sidebar for a half a second, and then the grey generic icons drop over them like a curtain, that there's something in the code that causing them to disappear.

Been using macs since OS7. As I said, complain to Apple. No one here can add an option just for a couple of people that is not written into the code.

Been using Apple since IIc and its amber text on a blackish/brownish screen. Yes, 21 pages of a "couple of people" complaining on this thread alone. Not to mention all the other threads in Apple Discussions about it. Not to mention the threads on MacRumors and elsewhere. A big to-do about nothing. That's what it is. Just a couple of people. Actually, your loving the gray seems to be the minority opinion, peter. Seems like only a couple of people like the gray.

I have complained to Apple on their OS feedback page, too, BTW, which is why I posted the text to this.

Wonderful. When I see the Millions and Millions of Mac users complaining and not just a few in Troubleshooting Forums then I may be slightly swayed. Don't pull figures out of the air. Write another astonishing letter to Apple Feedback and then realise that there is no point posting it here also to show folks what a wonderful writer you are. If you seriously hate Lion that much go back to Snow Leopard or Windows. Lion is obviously just not meant for you.

It really is a waste of time arguing an option that doesn't exist. Either keep bothering Apple about it or give us all a rest.

Just recently transitioned to Lion. D-Day for Mobile Me as the driver. The absence of color of the drive icons in the finder immediately slowed me up. I don't even remember what color or what the difference was but it was once very easy to recognize a flash drive plugged in. When you eject a thumb drive you have to wait for it but now because its so hard to tell the difference between the 10 drives in my finder, I have to read the tite of every drive just to be sure my thumb drive has ejected. That is not helpful. The color was a functional help. I don't care about it for being cute, I care about it because it helped. Help us and put the color back - please. This is pretty crazy asking for color in the year 2012! Please Apple. This has to be less useful to you all as well right?

I have recently downgraded to SL, mainly because of this issue. Hate the grey. What are you thinking Apple? Are your customers opinions no longer important?

Personally I don't care about the color missing one way or another... What is amazing the icons in the Finders window are in color.

(Now I need to unsubscribe to this thread so I don't get hundreds of emails on the subject.)

Worked great with Lion.

Now i installed Mountain Lion and after restarting Finder the icons in the sidebar disappeard completly.

Is there a solution for 10.8?

I'm not sure how you managed that, since Mountain Lion is not yet available.

It's been availabe for several months to developers and seed testers.

However, all questions regarding it should be addressed to the forums for those two communities. Not here.
