Seriously no key repeat in Lion?

This has to be the most ******** thing I've ever seen. Only certain keys that apple has deemed repeat-worthy repeat when you hold them down. As someone who supports unix systems and is in VI a LOT, this is simply unacceptable! Make it a configuration option!

Those are mostly kiddies playing with new toys. Give it awhile for the previous OS X users and not the mobile device users to get their hands on it. I, for one, detest desktop computers becoming handheld device surrogartes. If anything, it should be the other way around, but writing the next great novel using your thumbs is but a pipedream.😉

Kiddies? I've been using Macs since 1987. The first time I used an iOS device was in April, 2010. I'm a programmer, so if anyone needs to repeat characters it would be me. All the characters I would ever need to repeat work just fine. Repeat still works fine in any application the processes raw keystrokes (such as Terminal) as opposed to text entry fields.

I suggest you read this article - The perils of bashing an OS you've never used

It sounds like it was written just for you.

Did you guys try restarting your Mac???

No. I like the new behaviour. A restart shouldn't be required in any event. After making that change, it seems like you need to restart any running applications to have the new settings take effect. I can turn (c) on and off, but I can't get rid of the diacritical popup. It is possible that a logout or even a restart could be required. I will wait for someone who actually wants the old behaviour to try it.

This seems to be just another case of people complaining because something is different, not because it is any worse. The original poster even said as much.

Here's a workaround if the desired character won't repeat. Just put the character in the clipboard and hold down Command-v, which does repeat. Yes, it's a little bit of a hassle, but I agree with those who say that the new behavior is a positive change, and it's relatively rare that anyone needs to repeat a character that won't repeat. For those who do, this workaround should be acceptable.

Well that is your opinion there... the reason why I stated a restart is because the Apple Support Tech told me to do it...

Anyways, I actually LOST the repeat key in middle of a document I was typing and got the character selection instead. I contacted the rep back and she told me she found out it is a feature that is actually taken out. That command in terminal actually doesn't work either she told me. ...........

She said she'd pass on the info to techs/engineers and try to see if they'll come up with the feature again or not. I'll post as soon as I hear..

The MAIN reason why I have to have key repeat is when typing in a document, writing a paper, long e-mail, and so then sometimes I make a few mistakes and like to hold down the "delete" key so it takes it out while I use my thought process. Yes you can simply highlight it through your trackpad/mouse but it is the way I'm used to for the past 10 years including when I was a "pc guy"... yeah I'm not that guy anymore but still like to use the key repeat feature.

Figured I'd let people know that it WAS working for me, but NOW it isn't.
