This has to be the most ******** thing I've ever seen. Only certain keys that apple has deemed repeat-worthy repeat when you hold them down. As someone who supports unix systems and is in VI a LOT, this is simply unacceptable! Make it a configuration option!
If you want to force the key-repeat, and disable the "Press and Hold" for additional characters, here is the terminal command:
defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool false
Then restart the computer.
That works!!! Awesome... can I give you my list of other irritating things in Lion? maybe you can tell me how to fix them! eheh

Chris, I just installed the new skins and they look/work great! Still some "leather residue" in iCal, but overall both skins were done very well. Now I can sleep at night assured there's no more leather inside my aluminum-cased Mac Pro.

It does look promising for consumer/prosumers but the way it was handled leaves much to be desired. Apple should have learned from the iMovie fiasco.
New product? Give it a new name while keeping around and supporting the previous one for a period of time. There would have been little outcry had that happened. Give new people a new tool to use and grow and give the older ones time to adjust while adding new features or, in this case, re-adding the missing ones. It's common sense.
It's a good thing this slightly different OS is called 'Lion' and not 'Snow Leopard Senior'... 😉

yeah... doesn't look like Playskool but unfortunately still works like it... lost functionality is not good.
A million downloads and only 4 pages of complaints. Maybe not everyone has discovered it yet, or maybe they like the diacritical popup?

Give it time. The word will spread rapidly. Most new users haven't had the luxury of detailed examinations since it only shipped yesterday.
It'll be interesting. I can still repeat ========= and --------------- so that is all I really care about. I use the new stuff quite often I find.

Are you kidding? this will go over the heads of most users. Read some of the rave reviews on the app store for Lion. Some people actually PRAISE the very feature that took key-repeat away...
