Does anyone recommend OS X Lion?

I've seen many comments about people having different problems and trouble with the new OS X Lion, does anyone recommend me to download it? My current OS is Mac OS X 10.6.7.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

Instead of Church of England? what's the difference (other than the fancier real estate owned by our Roman friends)

Once one knows that MS DOS has nearly killed all desktop OSes in the world one can believe in anything. Even that Saint Mary died as a virgin.

But then.. You're not comparing the Church were the Supreme Head must be the King or Queen of England with the Roman Catholic Church I hope. At least the Catholics hold an election!! And sure. The cardinals are only the hands of the Holy Spirit on choosing the new Pope.

Anyway, didn't Darwin die agnostic or something similar?

No, he died a confused Anglican, which in no way detracts from his awesome achievements, shame he never had a Mac to collate all that data on 🙂

Awesome achievements? What, a theory that can’t explain the development of the eye? How many links are in the chain of evolution according to Darwin, 10 or 12 and not a single link has ever been found. I wouldn’t call a failed theoretician a person of achievement. That would mean his theory was valid and successful, it was neither. Collating his data on a Mac would only result in organizing the data. The theory would still be invalid and unprovable. Although, being a failure he probably would have liked Lion.

I have found Lion to be very stable and have had no issues. Of course, as others have stated, it simply will not run any applicatins that are Rosetta or PowerPC based. Given that there hasn't been a product of this type produced by Apple in some time, this was an inevitable change. Check your favorite applications and see if they will function under Lion. If not the choice is clear, don't change to Lion until you are ready to upgrade your applications.

heh, DrH, about a 10 second search using Google would reveal that Darwin's theories have, in the last few years, panned out with proof. Don't believe me? Go look. Out of date facts are just as bad as current fabrications.

But back on topic, 10 seconds of search will often answer your questions about almost anything, including Lion's changes that might impact people with old software.

No theory on my part. Fact is there is no proof.

But you’re right, you were way off topic to bring it up and so was I to respond.

BTW, about that Dr.Head:

My initials are DRH -- Head is my forum name (not real). I am not a doctor ;-)

You should read more carefully, I didn't bring it up, but I did respond, then you did.

Got it now?

Regarding Darwin, please point me to your sources. I am interested to read this “proof” from premise to conclusion, or see evidence of a link.

“... panned out with proof.” That remains to be seen, so show me.

I may have commented that some of Apple's OS software doesn't work as well in Lion as it did before, but I don't recall complaining about old software not working in any of my posts. You must be thinking of another post.

Lion buggiest Mac upgrade ever.

Things that I find annoying:

One client, an Enterprise company as of now does not allow lion on their network due to Lion 10.7.1 causing panic/shutdown in EMC Datamover when connected to EMC shares. I was sticking it out with Lion hoping for a fast fix with 10.7.2 but now will have to downgrade to work at my job. Lion not usable at all.

Sidebar item favorites take like a minute to show up sometimes, until then, sidebar is just blank. Folder items take a minute to show up sometimes too. annoying

Mail: If you have one unread email in a conversation, you have to open the conversation for it to be marked as read. annoying.

Scroll bar super annoying and goes too fast half the time so I want to pull my hair out trying to get it to go to the exact right page/part. annoying

Have already had to downgrade 3 client computers due to airport not working and general slowness. annoying.

I hate the new 2 partition system with stupid hidden partition that makes it difficult to reformat newer computers with Lion already installed. lame.

I feel bad for all the people who are getting macs shipped with Lion because there is no option to downgrade.

I've already had to hunt for systems without lion to purchase.

Not to always defend Lion, but... The EMC goes in panic/shutdown and it is supposed to be a Lion fault? It seems to me like a severity 1 bug in the EMC software. It's up to EMC (the server crashing) to patch it, not to Apple (the client triggering the bug).

Actually, a quick look in Google shows that EMC should have patched it already. You may tell your customer to check Primus emc263721 for details and update the storage. I wonder what the storage team has been doing.

well you weren't using the right key words:

Try "Observed Evolution"

Here's one link I found in a few seconds: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/06/11/527201/-Major-evolution-observed-in-a-l ab

Here's an overview of the who controversy: "http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/faq-misconceptions.html"

Here's something for you to nosh on: Theories only fail when they are disproven. They can be disproven by 1 observation of an act that invalidates the theory. They cannot be reasoned into failure. Do date there has never been an experiement or scientific study that could come up with one exception to invalidate Darwin's Theories.

If you want to know more try Wikipedia as your starting ground with a health does of your favorite search engine and flush it down with realizing that by our very nature, humans are not infallible, that's why we invented science to discover lies and other things we were wrong about.

“Darwin was right. Some people will never understand his theories.”

The theory that Lion will evolve into something better because of it’s iOS features is flawed. Lion may be on the bleeding edge, but that doesn’t necessarily make it better than the cutting edge preceding it. If 85% of Mac users don’t survive, Apple will go the way of the Edsel. Some things change and some things improve. Lion is a change, not necessarily an improvement.

You mistake my meaning, Head. I implied (but didn't say so) that Lion is a sport, one of those 85 percent that will not survive, at least not in its present form. As computers become more powerful and capable of even more wonders, there is a limit to the value of simplification. At some point, you need a more capable interface to accompany the processing abilities of computers. On the other hand, I don't write off its future improvement and/or incorporation of, say, a dual-capability interface, simple when I log on, more complex when I invoke more demanding applications and problem-solving environments.

As to my other comments regarding the low quality of early graphic interfaces, I wasn't alluding to the first Macs (of which I owned two). I first used an Apple II in the workplace, then at home got an Eagle PC, the far superior competitor to the IBM PC that unfortunately was orphaned by the premature death of its inventor. It was command line but had novel ways of working around command line's constraints. I was alluding to pre-Xerox Star graphical interfaces that were mainly experiments -- as was the Star itself, until Jobs, touring Xerox, made some notes and reinvented it as the Mac.

Not that the early Mac's interface was superb, it was just superior to the PC's. Great in the context of its times, but really not fully realized until Mac OSs 7 through 9. I suspect that Lion will be a minor roadside diner on the highway to the future Apple interface. I hope so.
