Does anyone recommend OS X Lion?
I've seen many comments about people having different problems and trouble with the new OS X Lion, does anyone recommend me to download it? My current OS is Mac OS X 10.6.7.
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

I too consider my mail "a disaster" but ONLY because I can't search properly. There's clearly a bug that affects only some of us.
I had the same problem (I think). Search in Mail was reporting only few entries. Rebuilding the Spotlight index fixed it. You may want to use Onyx for that. Otherwise there are plenty of ways to do it.
Important Update!
In answer to the original post it has been announced that the entire membership of the Cloveden & Cogsworth Catholic Amateur River Widening Association has recommended Lion (except for Gary who has yet to return from the Upper **** Excavations)
🙂
Yes. 😉
I had a lot of problems with Lion - my Office doesn't work, can't download form Youtube , may be we should create a group in FACEBOOK to advice people not to buy Lion at all.?!
Unless you are using Office 2004 there is no reason for Office not to work.
I had a lot a problems too, i suggest to create a group in Facebook to advise people not to buy Lion anymore

OK, you create the group and see how it goes.
Yeah, I know.
My point was more about things disappearing from the OS as a way for Apple to change things.

Not unless you want some hacker (off a website no less) to gain access to your entire system, all your data, and change your password to lock you out forever (and from there steal and then wipe out all your data.)

And THIS is the company who people are going to allow to hold ALL their data and apps on the iCloud?
No wonder Apple operates the way it does; it needs blind deaf and dumb cult followers to drink its Kool-Aid.
Lion is a DISASTER. PERMANENT boycott. Ditto iCloud. Apple doesn't intend it to be a giveaway scam to hackers, but IT WILL BE.
Leslie,
Take a moment to calm down. What's with the angry post(s)? Flaws are always expected on major releases of almost any software. While I agree that Apple should not have changed the authentication scheme before doing lots of stress tests, I'm sure they are also trying to use the most current and up-to-date authentication methods. People make mistakes (in this case, a Java mistake as well).
It's fine if you choose not to use an Apple product anymore, but a lot of us on the forums are trying to genuinely help users and give sincere advice. It's posts like yours that get people all riled up and it makes it harder for us to deliver that kind of help (especially when you make a blanket statement about all people who use Apple products, describing anyone who upgraded to Lion as "blind, deaf, and dumb cult followers").
As for the ZDnet link you posted: it is about a Java applet that the user has to run in order for their machine to be compromised. So, in fact, you really are insulting blind, deaf, and/or dumb users who don't know how to watch out for malicious websites (although I don't see how being deaf really makes you an ignorant user).
Spread the word about security flaws. Keep the awareness high. And spread some love and understanding while you're at it. Not everyone is a "power" or "professional" user.
Thanks.
(I still get a kick out of "DISASTER", though. Ha ha ha)
To reply to the OP, I've used Lion Server and have had a very good experience so far. The only thing that I've had trouble with was setting up NetBoot; but after I tried a few things I was able to get it up and running in no time. As far as all of the "bells and whisltles" they introduced, they don't really attract me to any of it. Never wanted full-screen apps and I definitely don't like the feel of an "iOS" on my laptop/desktop machines.
I also think it was a bad move making Lion a download-only installer, primarily. I mean, I have to install 10.6 first, only to reinstall 10.7? Bah.. I'll have nothing of it! Glad to hear some people have been able to make bootable DVD installers (although I won't link to any for fear of the ban hammer).
All-in-all, Lion is a "cute" OS. I don't think it's as sturdy as Snow Leopard. Currently I'm in love with SL and will be sticking with it for a while.
Nice post, Cold-- (yours of 7.54 my time). Good to see. 🙂
Cheers!
I've read every post in this thread, pro and con, and Lion IS Apple's Vista.
And I used to be a fanboi, back in the day when Apple was cutting edge and I could burn DVD's to distribute to future and potential customers. Today I can't even author or proof a Blu-ray disc without jumping through hoops, and Apple is dead set on removing that capability entirely. My customers do not have time to download promo material, the highest quality thereof is of utmost importance to me.
I edit video and music extensively, and am among the many pros who is looking at other platforms. Hard.
I do not appreciate for a single second the direction Apple is headed, and they've received their last monies from me. And I'm one of the few sitting here with a 2.93 12-core tower in one room and a 2.66 8-core in the other.
I am merely the tip of an iceberg, most of my colleagues won't bother to say anything. Most have already left.
Lion is a disaster that cannot be fixed, because it is the dumbing down of an OS. It does not add features I and other small business owners have needed and groused about for years, and enables Apple in sneaking them away easier.
And about the security DISASTER I posted; how dare you blame users for Apple's dereliction of duty. Many malevolent websites download java apps without the users' knowledge.
What you are interpreting as anger is numbness from years of frustration.
I repeat my answer to the original poster: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES UPGRADE. This OS is one mess Apple and its vast capital reserves will not be able to fix except with another name entirely and a return to basic functionality without iOS "tweaks".
