Does anyone recommend OS X Lion?
I've seen many comments about people having different problems and trouble with the new OS X Lion, does anyone recommend me to download it? My current OS is Mac OS X 10.6.7.

Ha! That's great! I'll have to start using that.
You two are right on target --- Apple has recently gotten rotten in some areas, and the basket needs to be thrown out before it ruins the rest of the bunch... I guess we could always run it in VMware and go to a regular unix platform and have Win in one module and Mac another and when you need certain business productivity go back to the older system... maybe that's it maybe they secretly are partnering with SUN or someone, some fringe group of worm set on destroying APPLE's holy grail trail.
I continue to be amazed at how Apple is apparently supposed to be responsible for whether third party publishers' applications work on Lion and if they don't, Lion wasn't "ready" for release.
Apple provides the operating system and the hardware. The third party publishers had over a year to get their products ready for Lion; if they didn't, blame them.
Lion has its quirks but for the most part it works beautifully; it's up to third parties to get their act together and update their applications accordingly, and by the same token for users to determine whether the software they want to use will work with Lion.
Totally agree. Some software developers always drag their heels. Adobe is one of the worst offenders. But it's all Apple's fault even though it's beyond Apple's control. Right...
I'm amazed to see how many people are flipping out because Apple didn't send them a personal letter telling them everything they need to know before installing OS X Lion. In the absence of said letter (perhaps a banner headline on the Apple home page would have satisfied some of them), these folks felt no responsibility whatsoever to educate themselves in any way. They just forged blindly ahead, then howled in protest when things didn't go as smoothly as they had naively assumed they would. And it's all Apple's fault, of course, for promising that Macs are so easy to use that it isn't necessary to engage your brain at all to get perfect results every time. It's a fairy tale, but there has been a flood of angry comments in this very thread from people who found out too late that the fairy tale isn't true. They're mad as h-ll, and not one of them is willing to accept an iota of responsibility for their own lack of preparation. Unbelievable.
Although like someone else mentioned here, I'm not happy about the loss of iDisk and Picture Galleries on Mobile Me, I do admit I'm in the minority using it and Apple is probably losing money on it.
That being said I'm no sure where Apple is getting "rotten". It certainly is not with Lion and I'm eager to see what iOS 5 brings.
That's funny because even with ONLY apple gear, I still have problems and in fact can't run Safari... Im sure you have a clver knee jerk response to that one too.
Don't have any one liners for you but I'm using Safari 5.1 on my MacPro writing this, was using the same on my MacBook Pro earlier in the evening from my local coffee shop, and had no problems with either of them.
Love Safari, fast, sleak and mean in Lion 🙂

Ok, deggie, I'm with you. Why are so many people down on MobileMe? I have used MobileMe for years and I have never had any complaints. iDisk is great and I have used the gallery for clients to upload photos and videos for editing. I have had to replace two iphones and with MobileMe I just enter my password and viola, all my info is on my phone before I get to the door of the Apple store. (At least that feature and other will still be available) It was well worth the $99.00/yr for me. I will be sorry to see it go, yet we have until June of next year. Maybe by then we will have other options.
Maybe by then we will have other options.
yes, a lot of the same options apparently, and for free.
So of all the "yes" users I have an honest question. This is not to badger but I am curious. How many yes users that use their Mac for busness are seeing an improvement with Lion? I am not looking to argue points of weather to upgrade or not, I really am looking for some solid feedback. Who is using FCP 7 with Lion? How is it working for you? Who is using Logic Studio Pro with Lion? How about Adobe, although I don't see a great stride on Adobe's end to update their stuff for Lion. I'm just looking for feedback Would be great to hear from you guys, good or bad. Any other info would be great. Thanks in advance.

Do you have any Safari "enhancements" or "haxies" installed?
I've had absolutely zero issues running Safari in Lion on multiple machines, nor have most others I know.
That of course doesn't mean you aren't having issues, and if you are and haven't yet, please create a new thread describing your issues in detail and I or someone else here may be able to help you resolve them.

I'm with you, kid. If you would like to commiserate with other MobileMe users, there are numerous threads in these forums specifically about MobileMe and how people plan to replace it (which isn't easy). Why is it that some things aren't fully appreciated until they're gone?
There are probably several hundred thousand MobileMe users; but unfortunately, that's a drop in the bucket compared to the tens of millions that Apple will sign up for iCloud—which is, of course, free but doesn't even come close to replacing MobileMe's best features (iDisk and the photo gallery). Apple wants the whole world to come to its door; and they're succeeding, too, because they make the best computer products by far. But sometimes they move a little too fast, I'm afraid, and end up throwing out a few babies with the bathwater.
I also think that part of the reason some people are down on MobileMe is that it's so easy to complain on the internet. You're anonymous and untouchable, all-powerful in a virtual sort of way. That kind of power doesn't necessarily bring out the best character traits in some people. They are free to quite literally take leave of their senses because no one can hold them accountable for what comes out of their mouths, as it were. I think many people actually regress when they sit at a computer screen. At least that would account for why it sometimes seems as though everyone posting comments on the internet is a seventeen year-old kid.
Plus the internet is addicted to bad news. Almost any negative report about anything immediately becomes an inflammatory headline that gets circulated around the globe without any confirmation of its authenticity or objective merit. It's the end of responsible news reporting as we know it, and it's happening right now right under our noses.
But I digress. 😎

i REALLY have a problem with Lion & the ATTITUDE of some people here defending it.. - specially when Apple worked SO HARD over the years convincing both IT literati & non literati, building a huge following & reputation around the ''it just works'' - hammered to death & until now, rightfully so .. - only to release something that OBVIOUSLY needs some VERY serious polishing, deburring et al....
& some expect people to accept this as ''normal'' ?
yes it is ''normal'' in the sense that UNFORTUNATELY that is the NORM in the computer/software world for things to be released plagued with gremlins - but that's simply NOT the APPLE way, or hasn't been so far....
try releasing a new car to the market & then convince your customers that : ''...oh yes & don't worry, we will work out why the brakes only work sometimes...'' or something like that - yeah, right !! in this day & age this is SIMPLY UNACCEPTABLE, so why should anyone try to pass it off as ''NORMAL'' ? RIDICULOUS.....
i was totally led to believe & had NO REASON NOT TO DO SO, that installing Lion would be a totally painless, no toothing problems, natural thing to do & did so based on the trust APPLE managed to instill in me over the years of doing things RIGHT - product after product, time after time, upgrade after upgrade...
actually i was very excited & looking forward to have it up & running - what ? a new OS ? HURRAY !!!...
to me that trust WAS shaterred & NEVER AGAIN will i do it in the future without waiting to see how it goes first......................................
it was just TOO MUCH HASSLE to do & to have to go back to Snow Leopard - i REALLY have better things to do with my time, computing for the sake of computing NOT being the main purpose/reason of my existence.......
if the download/installation process was painless, using the end product was a MUCH LESS than satisfactory experience as i said elsewhere..
my until then uber-gorgeous, elegant, sophisticated looking, feeling & smoothest functioning late 2009, 27'' iMac i7 w/ 16GB of RAM, suddenly looked, felt & worked as a REAL CHEAP'N NASTY computer, the kind of machine that actually kept me away from buying a computer FOR YEARS - what a **** shame i didn't take some pictures of how my desktop & my apps looked to share with you here !!!!!
i HAVE seen 90 dollar monitors running Windows XP that looked better than my 2000€ ( + or - 2.900 dollars ?.. ) machine running this Lion thing - i am SURE you'd be appalled too !
i know my iMac isn't the strongest, most powerfull, most recent, do all power house out there but it strikes me as having more than enough ''oomph'' to cope with Lion, right ?
now imagine selecting a photo in iPhoto, clicking in ''edit'' then selecting ''adjust'' & pushing every slider to the max, overcooking the saturation, contrast, sharpness, etc.... to death - THAT'S EXACTLY how every single app looked on my machine - charming !!
trying to sort things through System Preferences - displays - brightness only allowed to go from VERY dull to searing, retina burning type of images.
calibrating the display got nothing more than the same + A LOT more wasted time, effort & further frustration......
each app's own Preferences did VERY little to help....
in Safari, the black fonts on the menu bars were nearly undistinguishable from it's washed out grey-ish background, most window's backgrounds where searing white
the grey icons of Mail's left column lead me to believe everything was actually greyed out, same with the blue tone chosen to denote a selected ''inbox'' or other item - again the menu bar being washed up grey....
the impossibility to make fonts bigger or smaller in the Mail left column left them unreadable for me, worse : yet i could make the dull grey icons bigger though !?!? WHAT ??? can someone please explain this one to me ? i know personnal taste plays a role here BUT am i the only one finding it a BIT contradictory to spend time & effort making Address Book look like a ''realistic'' leather bound thing & then waste time changing realistic looking Mail icons into generic/bland grey ?
my iTunes - lovingly crafted over a VERY LONG TIME & EFFORT of loading hundreds of CD's, of transferring thousands of LP's, removing cracks, pops & other vynil foibles, .. - no longer had a smooth, elegant grey background but very murky & black-ish, all album covers cooked to death. i was SO shocked it didn't even occur to me to get it to play some music.........
unfortunately i could go on, and on, and on & still not manage to fully describe how repellent the whole thing looked & felt. NAUSEATING !
so much so that i didn't EVEN BOTHER with how the apps worked or didn't - at some point i would have paid WHATEVER to just get out of there REAL FAST !!!!
now before anyone starts telling me how something must be wrong with my iMac - after i came back to Snow Leopard ( Time Machine : i TOTALLY, UNRESERVEDLY LOVE YOU !!!!!!!..if only Lion was half as acomplished as you are.... ) EVERYTHING went back to normal - that to me, as a computer illiterate, only means one thing : there is/was something REALLY wrong with Lion & i'm steering well clear of the whole thing
if the future of computing the Apple way is going to look THIS BAD, i'm afraid that no matter how much i'll miss it, i WILL be droping out of it - this Lion is one sick cub

I'll bite. It's a slow day here. I own a studio. We have always been early adopters, although not early enough to adopt to MacOSX when Vista was around, where during that adoption we almost lost our shorts. Since we have been an all mac studio I'd say that our productivity has increased by 20% while our capital expenses have gone down 20% because Apple iron lasts longer in our environment. We use Avid, Protools, Logic, CS Master Suite, FCS, etc. all with good results. I have not released Lion into the work environment yet, that's my job as boss. It's only been a few days now, how could anyone see an improvement in just that time?
OS improvements for our business is measured in years and not days. The figures I gave you are for the past 3 (or has it been 4 since Vista release?). Initially, there was a huge expenditure in Apple hardware to replace all the PCs, and for the software as well. But hey, we have spent less in the past 2 years on hardware then we had anticipated back before we had Macs. Now is where it gets crazy...
My initial testing on Lion proves to me that our old hardware still has life in it. Talk'in Mbp3,1s and crotcheting old iMac8,1s and rusting macpros. Sure, we will update some machines for Thunderbolt, but as some people are beginning to realize thru real life testing, a lot of work in a studio can be done over USB. Anyway, not to sidetrack... This year we gain big with Lion running our machines cleaner, and extending the life of them.
So you wanted a real-life business story, there's one. For more information, see this old article written about us in Creative Cow International Magazine:
