Lion randomly crashes - black screen

Lion crashes ever now and thenand stays on a black screen. Its totally unresponsive, all I can do is force shut down but I've done this about 4 times already today any idea what's going on, or how to fix?

Thanks!

Upgade to Lion. Apple replaces the logic board and screen for free. I was experiencing BSOD while in Photo Booth and moving to the second key in effects. If I chose the second choice or button in effects the screen would crash. Genius bar did a clean install of Lion, checked all hardware (good). With all that completed, the screen still went black while in Photo Booth. They were stymied. The problem statrted with the upgrade to Lion. I told Genius that the fix would be a new board. They took my suggestion and wound up replacing the screen also. All is well for now. Customer service wa outstanding.

My MBP was out of warranty, but since I bought their Lion software from the app store I got all the work for free. I am in New York City. You have to tell them this is the remedy. Until Apple comes out with whatever Lion needs not to be a disappointment, this is the fix for me.

I'm having the same issue. Upgraded yesterday morning and had 3 crashes throughout the day. Twice while using Mail and once while just clicking on the menu bar. Really, really obnoxious.

MBP 2010 Core i7 8GB RAM

EDIT:

The guys over at MacForums seem to think it's related to the NVIDIA drivers and some are reporting that using gfxCardStatus to force integrated only keeps it from crashing. Check out the original thread here: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1182104&page=2

Same issue here, same machine (2010 15" MBP i7). I'd get random crashes in the graphics driver (panics), though I can reproduce it 100% of the time when launching one app in particular. Other (random) triggers have been previewing a text file with Quick Look and downloading an app from the App Store.

I also got them after waking from (overnight) sleep; from then on I couldn't even log in without a panic. Zapping the PRAM eventually let me log in.

Using gfxCardStatus to force the use of integrated graphics has worked for me so far - the aforementioned app now runs just fine. Hopefully this setting persists while waking from sleep ...

I'll be submitting this to Apple's bug reporting system; hopefully we can get a driver update soon.

Macjack, I was wondering if you could tell me what this report is indicating is the problem.

I installed gfxCardStatus and it still seems to keep crashing. any help would be great.
