Adobe has acknowledged this issue and after talking with Apple they simply said to wait for an update from Adobe. Its also an option to bring up a flash video from youtube or wherever and if the screen doesnt freeze, right click the video, go to settings, under the first tab entitled 'display' uncheck the box that says 'enable hardware acceleration'. I did this a couple days ago and havent had a freeze yet... but I realize I am only jinxing myself now and I'm sure I will encounter a freeze pretty soon.

So far lion has been pretty annoying but I'm sure the issue will be addressed and solved promptly.

Yes having similar problems, only migrated over to the Mac 4 months ago, have the 27" Imac, i5 with 8Gb. Often have problems with video clips and the mac locking up. Cant do anything but reboot. This is happening frequently, especially after 'sleeping'. This morning's crash was caused by trying to look at a video on www.bbc.co.uk. My PC doesn't crash half as often as my new Mac. Very frustrating.

Well at least now I know it's not just me. APPLE, YOU HAVE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, LIKE YESTERDAY!!! I recently switched to MAC from PC; I bought, last month, a brand new IMAC and loved it from the very second i turned it on....until I installed the stupid Lion (GRRRRRR). Now, I have, almost every day, the same problem you guys are talking about here, my entire system freezes completely and I leaves me with no option but to shut it down by holding the button down. I SHOULD NOT be having this problem with a brand new MAC that I spent over a thousand dollars on!!! This is very unsat from APPLE. I'm seriously considering going back to PC. I've had more problems with MAC in two months, than I ever did with a PC in over 5 years. FIX THIS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, 2009 Mac with 4Gb installes freezes, stalls, hiccups, but NOT JUST ON VIDEOS....Safari exhibits stuttering, where the mouse or my tracjkpad will not respond.

Also, I HATE the width of the new scrollbars which are much harder to 'capture'...

My whole machine has slowed down.

And Parallels doesnt run anymore. So I cant use Windows for the program I need for work.

SHIIIIITTTTT!!!!!

Parallels: Sorry but you will have to upgrade (this has been the case with any OSX release in the past years. (Leopard to Snow Leopard). Have a look at Sun Virtual Box not sure if they have Lion Support yet but they might. Then there is also VMWare Fusion (I believe they are partially compatible but you should verify yourself) or just Bootcamp ...

To those that have a brand new Mac, welcome, and here is a tip: You have warranty and support call Apple describe the problem, this would help all of those with problems more than just posting here. Once you talked to them update us all on what they told you to do and how to fix the problem, this would be extremely helpful.

Also capitals are not nice ....

Same issue with Lion on 21.5 inch iMac. Perian & Flip4Mac uninstalled btw.

Upgraded Flash Player to 10.3.183.5 and disabled hardware acceleration as someone else helpfully suggested ( right-click video to settings>display>enable hardware acceleration).

So far so good with Flash videos!

I just got a notification that there is a new Flash Version out there, you might want to check it out, not sure if it fixes your problem though. Maybe a re-install of Flash Player is needed: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/908/cpsid_90893.html

My iMac 2011 just freezed again (it was after computer sleep, and when opening youtube video in embedded window). There is sound from itunes, screen, mouse working but nothing else. Needed hard reboot. After reboot then iMac reboots again by itself second time. Youtube video now plays again probably until next sleep. There are no such issues on Mac Mini and Macbook Pro - only iMac.

So it's not a software problem but rather hardware? Or it's a software/hardware problem of iMac only?

Funny, my own post "Why iMac with OS X Lion is crashing often" was removed by Apple staff because it contained complaints and non-technical topics 😉 Well, probably true, but anyway, I hope somebody can have a solution soon.

For what it's worth, I'd been experiencing the same problem -- and only on my 2011 iMac, not on my other two MBPros.

I followed the advice of someone who posted much earlier, and in the energy settings have disabled allowing the computer to sleep (I still let the display sleep). Ever since changing that setting, no problems with the iMac freezing.

My guess is that this will be solved in some future Lion update, but until then I'm happy to no longer have to hard-reboot every time I watch videos. As I recall, it would happen when watching youtube and also sometimes watching embedded videos on websites. Annoying, maddening, but finally resolved with this workaround. For me, at least.

I have a 21.5 MAC. One week old. I am new to MAC always used windows pc. I loved this system until it started locking up. Can't do a thing! The mouse moves around, but nothing else. It seems to happen when I want to watch a video. It happened on the Apple site when I tried to watch a technical video. I am also running Lion. I hope a fix comes along soon. It locks up at least once a day.

Frustrating!

Why does my entire system freeze when I watch YouTube after Lion install?
