SOLUTION, for now... My brand new imac had this problem for the first month and after a few trips to the genius bar (they were clueless as to why it froze) i demanded a new one (thinking it was a lemon)... guess what? it freezes too!! after much research i found this: http://tidbits.com/article/12394

here is the issue described in detail.. lion is the problem. the answer is wait for the lion update in which apple has yet to acknowledge this issue and promise a future solution OR downgrade to snow leopard and wait to install lion after the problems are fixed... im going with erasing lion and reinstalling snow leopard since i dont have time to not work with videos on my computer...

I too have the same issue. This is the worst software that I have ever bought in my life... it has slowed my mac lyk a old snail with an ulcer undr its stomak. Im ****** off frustrated n wat not.. the systm hangs. takes ages to open applications... the pain that I hv to go thru EVERYday is like my b%**$ sliding on a razor.. Im jus waitin for the weeknd to get this off n switch bak to my sweet Snow Leopard. My mac works like a windmill. i probably can supply power to the grid with the fan running so fast.

For me, it turns out to be my router that conflicts with my 2011 iMac I experienced freezes while watching streaming video or after waking up the computer. Genius Bar couldn't replicate the problem but my computer freezed again as soon as I tried it at home. So I turned off my Belkin wifi and used the cable. It no longer freezes despite hours of streaming video. I now use airport wifi and so far so good.

Hey this has been driving me nuts - Any Youtube window would lock out my screen.

Updated to 10.7.3 and no help.

I use Google Chrome browser and the Adobe Flash thing did not need to be updated.

HOWEVER it did need to be updated for Safari.

Not sure if there's a true cause & effect here, but I updated my Flash via Safari, emptied the Trash, restarted, and now Youtube DOES NOT LOCK THE SCREEN in Chrome or Safari!

One side-effect was I lost the connection to my Wi-fi, but I was able to reconnect easily.

I'm having the same issues as some of you; my iMac completely locks up when I visit certain web sites (TechDirt, AppleInsider) and even though it's dealthy slow to get to, I can launch Activity Monitor and kill off 'Safari Web Content' which gives me enough time to close the offfending page and I'm back in business. So annoying!! I'll try to see if a flash update will help. Not too happy. 😠

I think this may be the same thing I'm experiencing... I am curious to know if any of you that are following this will clarify if this is the same bug I'm experiencing. How will you know? When ever this type of thing happens to my 27" Core i5 iMac, I am able to unfreeze it by pressing Volume Up, Volume Down, Mute, Chang the screen brighness... anything that brings up an "overlay" dialog from Mac OS (as seen here). Does this 'work around' work for anyone else here?
