Can't control Lion macmini with ARD 3.5.1 client

Title says it,

I can't control my just with Lion upgraded Macmini with ARD 3.5.1 client. I have also upgraded to ARD 3.5 on my snow leopard macbook pro. Before the upgrade of ARD on my MBP I could control the macmini, now it doesn't even connect/see the Macmini (that was also before I upgraded the macmini client to 3.5.1 BTW)

Neither can I use VNC from my iPhone anymore. Before I could wake up the macmini even on WiFi when using the macbook pro or iPhone/iPad.

So it seems an issue with client 3.5.1 on teh Lion Macmini.

anyone else has this issue?

thx

I have NOT upgraded to Lion. I have a brand new iMac. Both the client and the server admin app have been upgraded to 3.5. Both are running the latest versions of Snow Leopard.

Turning off and on the Remote Administration does NOT solve the problem for me. VNC also does not work. Apple has broken something with 3.5 and it needs fixing.

I hope someone from Appe is listening because I may have to force a downgrade on everything just to get Remote Access to work again.

Alright, I have been super frustrated with apple over the whole issue. however! I have it working on my machines. I had to revert back to the Client 3.5 (not 3.5.1). Its kinda tough to do though.

It involves replacing the /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagment folder with a mac that still has the 3.5 on it. Once I did that, I went into the shared area of system preferences, turned it on, and off, and I havnt had an issue since (spent about 2 hours on this issue this morning). Doing the same thing on another one with the same problem fixed it. So unless there is something else out there, I am now refusing to go up to 3.5.1 unless it gets fixed.

Let me know your mileage

Yeah what I did instead is I followed the instructions at Apple article# 108021 to remove the client, then I downloaded and installed client 3.3.2. After that I launched Software updates, where it offered me 3.4 and 3.5.1 versions of the client!?! Wow never seen that before! Maybe Apple knows something...

At any rate I rejected 3.5.1 and install 3.4. After a restart I can remote control the computer again. Something is clearly wrong with the 3.5.1 client.

I could not tell you, I have not upgraded Lion yet, and don't intend to until they have all the issues fairly well hammered out. Being an IT guy, I have come to distrust the first release of anything, especially operating systems.

What I DO know is that running Snow Leopard the latest version, I am being offered client 3.5.1. If I install it, then it seems Remote Desktop cannot connect, at least under certain circumstances.

I don't think so, as I originally started out with 3.4 during my testing, and it seemed to work just fine. I only applied all the updates 'cause that's the way I am - I don't like using older code if newer code is out there. I am assuming that the updates did not change much functionally (visably nothing?) but surely they patched security holes and whatnot under the covers.

OK! Following advice from another thread:

1. DELETE ARDAgent 3.5.1 (HDD > System > Library > CoreServices > Remote Management)

2. Copied ARDAgent 3.4 (available through Apple's own Support Download section)

3. Restart machine

And yes, 3.5.0 IS suppose to be coded for OS X Lion. BUT prior to applying the Remote Desktop Client Update (v3.5.1) that came with iTunes 10.4 AFTER successfully Screen Sharing on BOTH Lion machines, it totally broke Screen Sharing. NOW Screen Sharing WORKS! NO WAY will I be installing ANY update of Remote Desktop Client from Apple EVER again!

I have three computers that I am controlling (iMac, MacBook Pro and MacBook) and I couldn't view the screen on any of them when the client software was updated to 3.5.1 from 3.5. I ran Lion Cache Cleaner and ran everything on the maintenance tab (repair permissions, update pre-binding, maintenance, etc.) After that it is working fine for two computers. I didn't need to clean out any caches. I'm trying it now on the third computer to see if that will work as well.

So far no luck on the third one but the other two were still working fine today. I did a full cache cleaning as well with no luck. The Leopard install is a bit strange on it (e.g. no airdrop icon in the finder sidebar so I may try a reinstall.).

I can't say which is better Lion Cache Cleaner or Onyx but you can access all the features of Lion Cache Cleaner in the demo (unpaid mode) so it may be worth a try for you.
