Cosmopod 4.5.1 crashes Safari 5.1

Hello!

I just installed Safari 5.1 under OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard and the bundle CosmoPod 4.5.1 (latest version) was crashing Safari when I tried to open it.

Are you also having the same issue?

I went to /Library/Application support/SIMBL/Plugins/ and removed CosmoPod.bundle

then, Safari launched without any problem!

I'm waiting for an update from Cocoamug software.

🙂

You are probably looking in the Library folder under your Home directory. In Finder if you click on your username, you see a Library folder, but that's not the correct one.

You need the one that's in the root of your hard drive. Click the drive icon in Finder, typically named "Macinstosh HD", and navigate down the Library path from there.

For terminal users: it's /Library/Application support/SIMBL/Plugins/ instead of ~/Library/Application support/SIMBL/Plugins/ :-)

Hope this helps.

I, too, downgraded. Actually, I consider it an upgrade. Here are a couple of helpful links to get our fellow malcontents back to the future.....

It was much less of a goat rope than I expected. TIP: As mentioned in an earlier post, the SIMBL folder will be found in Library/App Support under the Mac Hard Drive, not in the Library of your Home Folder.

When you knock this out, just put CosmoPod back where you found it and you'll be back in business.

I followed the directions and restored to 5.0.3. There were some warnings about not replacing a file with a folder and 5.0.3 would not play any Flash video, even though both Java and Flash were installed. Fortunately I experimented on a backup. I have to say, I did miss the blazing speed of 5.1.

I too Emailed the developer with no reply. If there's a technical reason they can't make this work, they need to go on MacUpdate and reply to their paid customers and just let us know. No excuse for hiding.

I had the same problem when I installed Snow Leopard on my original 24in iMac. I bought an alternative program that works well called Jaksta. It is currently installed and functioning on my 27in. iMac running OS 10.8.2. It does the job but does not have all the CosmoPod features and has a slightly different format. I missed my CosmoPod so much that I finally had to go on eBay and buy a used 24in. 2008 iMac with a new 1 TB hard drive with Lion already installed. Needless to say CosmoPod did not work on Lion so I reformatted the HD and installed Leopard OS 10.5.0 upgraded to 10.5.8, bought CosmoPod again, and installed it on the used iMac. I cannot help it, CosmoPod works beautifully on the OS 10.5.8 machine and I have given up cursing and swearing (drinking and carousing are next, I don't smoke so that's out), even though I now have three iMacs sitting here, one devoted exclusively to my beloved CosmoPod, I am now a happy camper! Hey, it's only money and you can't take it with you and I sure as heck ain't leaving to my kids. Where there's a will and enough money, there's a way! If you want a Cosmopod substitute operational on Mountain Lion then JAKSTA is your program.
