Set Web Inspector to open attached to current window (Safari 5.1)

Okay, this is going to drive me nuts:

I just upgraded to Safari 5.1 on Snow Leopard, and now whenever I open the web inspector (Developer feature), it opens in a separate window. It used to default to opening within the current window, which is what I prefer. Now I have to hunt down the 'Dock to main window' button everytime I want to inspect a page's code!

Any help would be much appreciated; I'm curious if this occurs for others or if this is a conflict with one of my plugins. I've already looked through the Safari preference file (com.apple.Safari.plist) and found 'WebKit Web Inspector Setting - inspectorStartsAttached' set to true, but that doesn't seem to be working.

Safari-OTHER, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Safari 5.1

same problem for me.. very annoying.. not to mention some of the other "features" of Lion... kinda regretting the upgrade a little bit right now

+1 - I was all ready to ditch Firefox (currently using 453MB of real memory) for Safari but this has sent me scurrying back.

Yep, this has caused me to abandon Safari as my everyday browser on my machine at work. Looks like I'm going all Chrome all the time now.

Please fix this asinine problem.

Seems if you delete the preference. And let safari recreate it, the setting for inspectorStartsAttached is not created any more. Tried making it a boolean din't work either 😟

+1 - This is unbearable. How can such a bug happen ???

I am going back to firefox anyway the lack of good extensions was strating to **** me off.

+1 This is significantly affecting my workflow. I’m not switching browsers at this point, because I’m sure there is a fairly straightforward way to fix it, but it certainly is frustrating.

+1 Hands down, this is the worst bug that I have encounted in Lion. It is a massive interuption to my workflow to have to re-dock the Inspector window and resize it downward each and every time I use it.

I don't know, I definitely won't miss those - they always appeared when I didn't want them to show up; I even found a plugin to remove them!

I figure this web inspector defect is just a bug they failed to catch...

+1. I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing this and missing the old way. I assumed that the first time I docked the floating window, it would set a preference and dock by default thereafter. That hasn't been the case, of course. Otherwise, the new inspector updates are really nice. I just need my docked window back.
