Here is my description, you can copy and paste it for your report:

Summary: Web Inspector opens in a new window, even when previously attached to current browser window. There is no way to override this behavior.

Steps to Reproduce:

Open Web Inspector in Safari

Expected Results:

Web Inspector window should open attached/anchored to browser window if previously attached.

Actual Results:

Web Inspector always opens in new window.

Regression:

Appeared in Safari 5.1 on Lion.

Just did submitted the bug report. Thanks for the reminder. Hopefully a fix for this is coming in 10.7.1.

Due to this i switched to chrome for web developement and its very good.

Hey, I was having this issue too but once it's open, you can simply "dock" it to main windows - bottom left corner. Not ideal but works

It remains "docked" for that browser window session (even when you navigate to a different site/link

that is very very far from ideal.... i think most of us web devs know about the docking. but alas, the only real solution for now is chrome. even the webkit nightlies don't have it solved yet.
