Double Icons in LaunchPad...?

Does anyone else have double icons in their LaunchPad? If you look in the picture, I have two iCals, two iTunes, two chess, etc. Only one of them works. The other always closes with an error message. Is there a way to fix it manually, or do I have to wait for an update from Apple?

I believe I have found the solution to this problem on my computer. I used to create Alias's of all the applications I used regularly and kept a folder of these Alias's in the Dock so that I could quickly open them. It is these Alias's that are showing up as duplicate icons in Launchpad. When I trashed these Alias's the duplicates went away.

Hope this works for everyone! Good luck.

I found this really works for me

================

1. Run Terminal

2. Type sudo rm ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db to remove the problematic Launchpad database

3. Enter user password to permit change

4. Type sudo killall Dock

to recreate a new database

5. Exit Terminal

=================

Once you completed the above all the docks will be closed, then you will be able to re-launch everything. The Launchpad will go back to the original setting (the app icons that you arranged previously will also go back to its original position - however this solve the duplication problem)

Good luck ~

âž• This is what actually solved my issue.

I tried the terminal option that Mr Seeker put and it worked great:

I hadn't done exactly this, but something like this. I had moved these applications to different folders within the applications folder when I was still running Snow Leopard. I guess when Lion updated these apps, it didn't find the originals so just wrote new ones. The old ones were still in their folders, so I just deleted them. Fixed the problem right away 🙂

I have 2 "Photo Booth" icons.

One is the latest version 4.0.

Another one is version 2.0.3 and I can't startup this.

"You cannot use the application Photo Booth.app with this version of Mac OS"

The same situation for iMovie, these version are '11(9.0.4) and '08(7.1.4).

I think this problems is caused by "Migration Assistance".

Because I migrated from MacBook to new iMac(model year 2010) in 2010.

iMovie '08 is installed only MacBook.

I have the same problem, in fact I have some apps that have 3 icons in Launch Pad (Address Book for example). All the the icons lanch the apps they represent. The multiple icons are all Apple apps except for a few exceptions. The two iCal icons show different dates!

Why do we have these multiple icons. How do we get rid of these multiple icons?

If I do use Launch Pad regularly (which is unlikely) I would like to chose the applications that are displayed in Launch Pad. Any ideas anyone?
