my imac has no sound after Lion, the system does not recognize the internal spekers in preferences. How do I make it visible as a choice?

Hi Ian,

Will Kent from the Focusrite Tech support has sent me a pre alpha Lion driver which works. Maybe you can ask for it at Focusrite Technical Support Team <pro40support@focusrite.com> as well. I had to restart my mac with no USB units attached after installation, but it works with Logic Studio then. They are about to test and to build the official release.

Thank you for your words, that gave my day more sense…

I'm a total iMac noob - just got mine last Wed. I have a Focusrite SP 40 as well - My iMac came with SL on it and I (foolishly) jumped onto the free Lion upgrade the night I got the machine. I downloaded a beta of Saffire Mix Control from Focusrite (could be the one JAN speaks of - and that's not the issue.

My issue is, I purchased (last Fri) an Alesis Q25 midi-keyboard controller. While it works in Garageband (not Logic Pro 9 ????? weird) - when I do the Audio Midi Setup Utility, nothing (outside of the normal ins/outs on the back of the iMac) show up. My Saffire Pro isn't in there (has midi-in/out ports), my Alesis midi keyboard doesn't show up (would like to tweak the settings if I may).

Going back to SL is NOT an option since that involes installing Lion on an external drive, formatting the internal, and installing SL onto the internal. Insane.

I love the iMac so far, but wow... the update to Lion makes Win7 look like a quality product.

Any suggestions on how to get my Alesis keyboard to show up in Audio Midi Setup or work with Logic Pro 9? Please don't say Alesis drivers... already been there. I've updated Logic as well.

This problem is definitely not fixed for me. I just wiped my macbook's hard drive because the audio stopped working after the lion hard drive, and did a clean lion install from scratch so I was sure there was no bad software on there. Reset pram etc beforehand. I still have no audio. I've done every trick in this thread and elsewhere and I still have nothing after the lion clean install. Argh.

I have a mac book pro mid 2010 and there ar two ways around the issue for me

One is to plug in a head phone for about 6 seconds and the volume control lights up

Two is to styart the mac book WITHOUT any bluetooth devices connected (i.e.) the mouse and then once it boots turn on the mouse

the second is the least destrcutive hardware wise

But hopefully apple will address it ASAP the local Apple store replaced my syetm board to try and fix it 476 bucks apple has to eat 😟

I have the same problem that the sound is gone on the next day after sleep/resume (iMac Mid 2010).

Found a temporary solution to open the Audio/Midi-Setup, choose the output and just click once on the right hand side on the channel bit combo. Suddenly all the "old" sounds from mail arriving for sending play and the sound is working till the next sleep/resume cycle.

Hope that helps someone else too.

This may not apply to everyone, but on a Mac Pro tower on which I had lost sound on my external speakers I simply switched the cable from the port at the rear to the headphone port at the front, and the sound came back. I swear I had tried this before, but when I was using iTunes. This time I was playing a track on YouTube. Doesn't make sense, I know, but it worked. Have restarted, sound still there. And it's there on iTunes as well.
