I, too, am encountering this after an upgrade to Safari. Specifically running Safari 5.1 (6534.50) on 10.6.8 (10K549). This after uninstalling and re-installing the latest debug build of Flash (as I develop Flex applications) I am now running version 10,3,181,34. Safari extensions are disabled, and my simple test-case Flex application (a single text box, text area, button and check-box) runs fine in Opera, Chrome, and Camino. I'm also filing a RDAR bug for this.

I've been having the same problem with the Flash Player debugger version while working on Flex applications. However, if you want to stay in Safari while debugging a Flex/Flash app, just choose FireFox 4.01 (Mac) from the User Agent menu selection in the Safari Developer menu. It works just fine from there.

I also don't think this was intentional at all. I think it was just a bit careless (Apple pushing out Safari 5.1 before it being thoroughly tested - the flash problem is only one of several issues I've noted with the new browser. Very dissapointing.).

Yep ! Good point ! It's the better (and the only one right now) solution until Apple/Adobe update there softwares.

Otherwise, I noticed strange behaviour with Lion, I had exactly same problem after update from SL but, in my office, I make a clean install and everything works (same plug-ins into /Library/internet Plug-in as home MB)… really strange 0_o.

I'm seeing this same problem. I tried the Safari workaround suggested by SwampSpawn and it did allow me to input text and basically run and test my Flex app (I also saw the cursor dispappearing problem).

However, none of the breakpoints in my code were being triggered. So the app would run and function fairly normally but I couldn't really "debug" with the debugger. 😟

Has anyone else who tried changing the User Agent in Safari seen this?

Well....I finally bit the bullet and just downgraded Safari 5.1 to version 5.05. Too many flakey issues with 5.1, and not just with Flash Player debug. 5.05 actually seems to run noticeably faster, too, and I'm back to a point where things work as expected now with Flash and Flex debugging.

This is the second Apple software downgrade I've performed this week. After using Lion for a couple of weeks, I decided the drawbacks associated with such a new release far outweighed any benefit of the new OS. So I'm back on 10.6 and loving it (and my ColdFusion install loves it as well). I'm starting to buy in to the whole Lion = Vista chatter on the 'net. Still, Lion had some cool features so I'm hoping Apple's first update will fix a lot of the strange behavior and application incompatibilities (many of which will hopefully be addressed soon by the respective publishers).
