A word of caution before I post this link: It has been reported that OS X Lion users have bricked their systems when attempting to downgrade Safari. I followed the instructions at this link and it worked fine under Snow Leopard (10.6.8).

The 6th and 7th posts in particular were the ones I followed. They contain a link to the Safari 5.05 download and instructions for downloading and using Pacifist which appears to be the best way to downgrade.

I originally had this problem when i upgraded to safari 5.1 while on SL 10.6.8 & Flash 10,3,181,34.

I then downgraded to safari 5.0.5 (just copied it from aplications folder of another computer) and everything worked fine

I have since done a clean install of Lion on a new HD with Safari 5.1, Flash Debugger 10,3,181,34 & Flash Builder 4.5 & everything is working. Text fields accept input and i can debug without any issues.

If you don't need debugger capability, Flash Player 11 beta works perfectly from what I've seen thus far. No problems typing into text fields and no disappearing cursors. I searched for the debug version of FP 11, but was unable to find one. Hopefully, Adobe will go live with 11 soon and include the debugger version, but it appears to be fairly early in the beta stage. And for those suffering from ColdFusion 9 problems under OS X Lion, removing ColdFusion and then reinstalling and applying the 9.01 update seems to fix the few quirky issues with CF under Lion.

Earilier today I downloaded and installed the 11.0.1.152 version of the Flash Player Debugger and it seems to have resolved the text input problem for me.

I've switched off of Firefox back to Safari 5.1 as my default browser. And so far everthing seems to be working as it should.

Hopefully anyone else who's run into this problem will also be fixed by going to v. 11 of the debugger.

This is affecting site and apps like: Google Voice Widgets, Staples, Walmart, Best Buy, Walgreens and site that use the flash based weekly ads...just go into the weekly ad and find one that lets you update the quantity in the actual flash and see how it doen't pick up the keystrokes.

So I also was pulling my hair out trying to figure this out as well on a client site that uses many flash text field inputs.

Must view in Safari 5.1 to see it not working...well "not working" unitl they fix it! http://www.ivotechnology.com/

Thanks Steve!

I was about to attempt a downgrade on Safari. I use the FP Debugger to trace to the Terminal in Safari, which is a HUGE help when developing for Flash, but it can be painful for casual browsing. Going up to the FP 11 Debugger fixed my non-working Flash inputs. It also got my tabChildren focusRect back in action!

On the other hand, one thing that's pretty cool about Chrome is that it will let you choose which FP plugin you want to use. There's a native FP Chrome plugin and then the debugger, you have it installed. You can enable/disable whichever you like. Point your Chrome browser to: about:plugins or chrome://plugins and click the + details on the top-right. That's handy!

Safari 5.1 & 5.1.1 both won't display an SWF file that dispalys perfectly in 5.0 & in other Browsers. The Activity Window in Safari reports that the swf file is missing - which is incorrect. The same upload works in other browsers & in Safari 5.0. Why is nothing being communicated about this? Why are numerous reports to Apple being ignored? This is very frustrating & disconcerting.
