Is it possible to turn off resume?
Is there a way to turn off resume? I'm asking becuase its kind of starting to get annoying.

Uncheck the option to reopen windows when logging back in when you either shut down, log out, or restart.

Thank for the quick respond. I know about that but every time I close an app and open it back up what ever I was doing is still there. For example earlier today I was working on a presntation on Keynote, I quite it and a few hours later I opened the app and what I was working on was still there. I guess it's not called resume then?
The resume feature you're describing is managed by the Dock. For now I'm not sure what it is, but there will likely be a hidden setting revealed soon that will allow you to disable the resume feature. This may crop up in utilities like TinkerTool that will allow you to customize these hidden settings.

SysPrefs > General > Uncheck 'Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps' (near bottom)
Hah! I've completely missed that setting for some time now....*smacks forehead*
But that doesn't seem to stop Resume from opening everything that was open when I logged out. I have to manually quit apps before logging out...
Agreed Erik... a major PITA.
During the Appleseed program this was one of the main gripes about Lion and even after all of our ERs Apple didn't listen.
I'm all for the option to activate Resume... it's just that many of us also want to completely deactivate it for some of our systems.
Since Apple didn't listen to us during seeding... I imagine it will take a third-party app like TinkerTool, Onyx, or Cocktail to completely deactivate Resume in the future.
An easy way to do this is to reinstall Snow Leopard.
Lion automatically quits applications that aren't doing anything. With resume, you can't tell the difference between relaunching the application and just switching to it. Any method of defeating resume needs to include a way of overriding Lion's application management.
Agreed. Reopening every app that was going before is the last thing I want to happen when I start up. It's visually offensive, and it's a waste of time and processor capacity.
