I would also try turning off TimeMachine and restarting and see if that helps.
We have two macbook pro with same problem after Lion install !!!!
Someone please help, any solid info will be very helpful!
I bought an MBP13 a month ago. I notice that after not restarting for 3 or 4 days, suddenly after resuming from sleep MBP just keeps running hot even if I close all apps and wait and see it if cools down.
Spotlight isn't working, Time Machine is disabled and no apparent load on CPU or HDD or anything. I even closed all items from Dashboard.
I wait 10 minutes, the CPU is still running at 85 degrees and fan is over 3100 rpm. Seeing how the system just won't cool down, I restarted and in 10 minutes it cooled down to 45 deegrees and fan is at its lowest 2000 rpm. I opened Mail, Safari, Adium, CPU is at 42 degrees constantly.
So, does this mean Lion needs to be restarted every few days? Why? This happened constantly every few days after each restart. Please please give me some kind of a logic behind this. I thought this kind of problems did not exist on OS X.
Does anyone have any further info.
This happens under 10.8.2 as well.
Apple Genius Tech Support denies any issues (even though there are multiple people here saying the same thing)
Blames the OWC data doubler with a 7200 RPM drive I have installed. Refuses to support the product.
I have indeed disconnected the HD
System is currently running @ 83C with no load
I am using SMC Fan Control to increase the left side fan default to 3k as without doing that the system would climb to 100C with no load.
Left Heat Pipe is reporting 128C which is consistent with the heat I am feeling (another reason I'm pretty sure it's not the data doubler drive)
I also have the sleep issue described above random sleep failure where the computer crashes but fans are on full blast till restart.
*this was the issue apple denied*
Occurred since Mountain Lion Upgrade.
I have found all manner of problems with Time Machine on my MBP 17". If I run Time Machine, the laptop is hot. If I don't, it isn't.
I haven't been able to do a TM backup in months, but that's another thread.
Other than TM, the only thing that makes my machine run hot is video.
I just wanted to add to this that any heat problems were corrected by installing 10.8.3.
Immediately after installing 10.8.3 and rebooting the machine idle temp was around 40-45 with the setting of better battery life (onboard GPU) and 50-55 with the 9600GT enabled.
