Can not receive email, password not accepted by server

Keep getting this message:


There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “Rick's mail” or try again.

The server returned the error: The POP server “pop.teleguam.net” doesn’t support Password authentication. Verify your account settings and try again.







So now what do we do?


Re-entered password and all other settings, talked with internet provider but can not solve problem...........

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

I suggest you go and do some reading, do you know anything about Apple?


And...if you install Microsoft on your Mac it will be crash after crash after crash, trust me, they do not know how to write stable software.


Apple is Mac, Apple are in a very comfortable environment where they write the software for the hardware they produce, something which Microsoft do not do.


Really, you need a quick lesson in the history of computing before coming out with stupid statements like that.

Hey, I'm the stupid. Please, talk with your friends at Apple. Please, tell them that I'm using Apple software and hardware for 22 years (not for masturbate me navigating **** webpages. For my everyday work). I don't have your brilliant IQ, but I need, and I want, to receive mails on Mail 5.0. I need the secret version for Mac's friends and lovers. Please, ask them for a copy for me. I'm in love with Apple too. I can't leave them. I'm an Apple addict. Sorry Master for my rude and strong language.😁

You are absolutely right, Iain McLean. I don't want to bother dealing with my ISP in order to convince them to make changes to their POP server. Mail worked fine in Snow Leopard but now in Lion it's useless. This mess is Apple fault only and they must fix it. But there seems to be no acknowledgment of the problem and no fix in sight from Apple. Really disasppointing.

IMAP is not going to solve our problem. Dealing with my ISP in order to persuade them to make changes to their POP servers is not going to solve the problem. Apple have to solve this problem. But Apple is doing like everything is OK. Yes, really disappointing. Here in Argentina a Mac, the Isp's and the Mac OS X Lion are too expensive. We deserve a little more respect for our money.

I was curious if the Mac OS X 10.7.1 update released today solved the problem for anyone? The authentication problem was addressed by my ISP several weeks ago, but my hope is that those still having problems might possibly find relief in the update.


Failing that, my recommendation is that you make a bug report with as many details as possible, particularly your ISP. I took this step, and (coincidentally or not) someone from Apple started working with my ISP/mail provider to resolve the problem not long afterwards.

Not fixed, pathetic, I guess they only fixed the bugs Steve Jobs could find, the thousands of the rest of us who have real issue with their pathetic programming have to put up with being disregarded as usual.


Apple, get a grip, this is ridiculous, if you cant make Mail work how do you expect us to trust you do do anything else?

Actually, that information is incorrect. IMAP allows multiple users to access the SAME email account at the same time and keeps the email on the server.

During setup of an account the user is allowed to control how many - if any emails are downloaded locally for searchine, etc. This allows a secretary to access her boss's email while he answers ones she has left in DRAFT status, etc.


Read some more about IMAP. It is what is behind Microsoft's Exchange Server (their version of IMAP), and is used heavily by large companies.

same here, I`ve been using mac for ten years and this is first time I´m getting really frustrated, would somebody from Apple support team now comment on what´s happening here, why didn´t you fix the problem when releasing 10.7.1, you really can´t consider this as a minor issue when thousands of people are using every day your mail application and suddenly it refuses to receive mails

Yes I upgraded to 10.7.1 and no joy in regards to logging into my mailserver using SSL (993). I use Mailserve for Snow Leopard as my mailserver and I have asked Bernard Teo of Cutedgesystems if he could make the code change suggested in another post and post an update to Mailserve.

All my other computers that use Snow Leopard log in just fine, only Lion is causing this problem. Does anyone know if mail.app 4.5 from Snow will work in Lion?

Hi everyone, I'm having this problem as well. The strange thing is that I have two GMail IMAP accounts... one is receving emails, while the other one is not (is takes a while to "retrieve", then when it finishes, it doesn't give an error but none of the new messages are downloaded). The settings are identical (other than the obvious credentials difference). I've tried cycling "Use SSL" off and on, as well as the MD5 thing (GMail won't accept MD5).


I don't know if any of the people working on this would be particularly interested in looking at my email account settings/attributes, since I have one Gmail that works and another (with identiical GUI settings) that doesn't...
