After Lion upgrade, having network issues after wake from sleep

After upgrading to Lion from 10.6.8 on my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011), I am unable to connect to the Internet after the computer wakes from sleep. I should rephrase this - I am able to ping IP's and DNS (DNS servers are present) however none of my apps will connect (Safari, iChat, etc) -> they all indicate the Internet is unavailable. I have two Airport Express's running 7.5.2 extending a WiFi network off an Airport Extreme running 7.5.2. This issue is specific to waking from sleep. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appriciated.

After 10.7.1 update, reset PRAM of your Mac can really fix the "no wifi after wake up from sleep" issue. I have done this and test it thoroughly, so far so good. Opened the lid of my MBA and it connects to wi-fi 3-4 secs, can surf web, Adium auto connect itself to internet. This was a 5 mins sleep test. Then I close the lid of my MBA to let it sleep for an hour. After coming back from dinner, I opened the lid and the wifi comes back. So guys don't give up yet, please reset the PRAM if you still have no wifi after wake up from sleep.

I am going to perform such test continuously for this week and check.

I'll give that a try. I did notice that I can not even see my Airport Extreme at all when booted into 10.7.1. I can see it when booted into 10.6.8 though. And I can see it from a Windows 7 laptop too, so the Airport Extreme is fine.

I'll try resetting the PRAM and deleting some Airport preference files too.

I realize I could Erase and re-install and then add my files back in from my time machine backup or one of my other backups, but I would really like to figure this out.

Sadly 10.7.1 has made no change. I thought at first it had but the problems I had before are all there:

1. It keeps gping to sleep and waking up immedaiately if there is a network drive plugged in.

2. If I put power to Time Capsule it knocks out my Airport Extreme and WiFi. (Lion will not/cannot configure Time Capsule either.

3. iCalc does not sync.

I also found after installing 10.7.1 that it made iPhoto inoperable. I had to delete it, reinstall it from the iLife disc and then check for software updates for it - I knew there was one but this time round there were 2, it loaded the first and when I ran it it said it eneded another.

Everything else works OK, it all did before Lion, but Lion 10.7.1. still does not like external hard drives connected to the network.

I did reset the PRAM etc.

Ok so... I can safely say 10.7.1 has certainly not fixed my problem.

My wake from sleep network issue only ever occurs when I have a drive mounted, be it time machine or what not.

Just lifted the lid on my MBP and saw the time machine volume was mounted, it wasn't even in the middle of a backup or anything it was simply just left on the desktop as a mounted drive and once again my wifi would not connect and I had to manually disable the wifi and re-enable it which takes forever when the MBP is in this state.

Need a fix please Apple - and soon!

This was the same as my problem, a mounted USB drive and the iMac would go to sleep and switch back on again. Time Capsule presented a different problem. After installing the upgrade the going to sleep problem seems to have abated, am not convinced it has gone completely and need to spend some time observing the iMac.

The Time Capsule used to knock out my WiFi and Lion would not recognise the Time Capsule. A hard rest of the Time Capsule (pressing in the reset button on the back) cured it but not initially. I had to do it three times before it worked OK. Time Capsule no longer knocks out the WiFi and Time Machine runs fine.

Assuming the going to sleep problem may have been resolved the only other one where I assume yet a further updgrade from Apple is needed, is to get iCal to sync - this problem is covered in another part of the forum.

I thought 10.7.1 fixed this problem for me, but it still occurs, just not every time like it used to. It happens about 10% of the time now. This is ridiculous. FIX THIS APPLE!

In all seriousness, have you contacted AppleCare so they know your particular configuration details and can try and reproduce your precise issue?

Apple's engineers are very good, but they're not psychic, and if you're still having issues they need to know that; it's very likely they are troubleshooting what configurations they can.

While I don't disagree with what you have said because not everyone's problem is the same.

I am beginning to wonder what may be going on here.

I am starting to think it has something to do with particular wifi cards.

As I mentioned I did a full erase and install. I though the wifi problem was gone but then last night, after waking, I could not reconnect without having to turn wifi of and then on again.

I have thought about calling Apple but considering I work in IT and have diagnosed many problems before, well..

Plus with a clean install I am even more unsure as to what anyone at AppleCare could do.

I have also noticed problems with some iMacs connecting to a wireless network we have where I work. It's not the same problem, most likely, because when I connect them via ethernet there is no problem. But some iMacs do fail when trying to connect to the router and others have no problem. One of these iMacs I also did a fresh install on.

Leading me to think it may be the wifi card version in this instance as well.
