After Lion upgrade, having network issues after wake from sleep

After upgrading to Lion from 10.6.8 on my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011), I am unable to connect to the Internet after the computer wakes from sleep. I should rephrase this - I am able to ping IP's and DNS (DNS servers are present) however none of my apps will connect (Safari, iChat, etc) -> they all indicate the Internet is unavailable. I have two Airport Express's running 7.5.2 extending a WiFi network off an Airport Extreme running 7.5.2. This issue is specific to waking from sleep. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appriciated.

A good point to make but the problem can be getting through on the phone.

It's now about 7 days since I installed the upgrade (10.7.1). Like many here I thought the problems had gone, they have to an extent and seem to come back intermittently. Having got Time Capsule to work at last (it would not under 10.7.0) yesterday the computer did not recognise it, said there was a new Time Capsule with default settings to set up. I did that and it's worked OK since. On the other hand Time Capsule does not knock out my WiFi now. With 10.7.1 that seems to have worked consistently well since I installed it. Occassionaly the iMac goes to sleep and immediately wakes up, not as often now but I am not convinced that is now a "Lion" problem and may be something to do with how I am set up.

The remaining problem that remains, whether it's a network one or not I don't know, is that iCal on the iMac does not sync. Others it seems have the same issue. It works fine for my iPhone, iPad and MacBook.

Think some progress though has been made with 10.7.1. A shame these basic issues were there in the first place on the release of Lion.

Hi

I'm running 2 Mac Book Pros both new, but pre Lion preinstalled versions. After upgrading to Lion 10.7.1 the problem of not reconnecting after sleep was not resolved. Somewhere on the community I read this.

1. Open System preferences.

2. Open User and Groups.

3. Open Login tab

4 Against Itunes helper you will find a yellow triangle.

5 Deselect that item.

I now find that my internet connection is avaiable immediatley from sleep, each time. Problem solved.

ATTENTION Fellow Frustrated Lion Users: I just got off the phone with U.S. Apple Support two minutes ago. The Rep said that indeed Apple is aware of the loss of Internet connection and the automatic immediate wake from sleep. He said the problem as the Apple Engineers see it is that instead of Lion putting JUST the monitor and harddrive to sleep as it should, Lion is instead put almost all Sytem Functions to sleep as if you had temporarily turned off the computer.

A fix is almost finished and will soon be available as a "Software Update."

Hang in there guys ;-)

Note that the odds of your problem being fixed in a future Lion release go down if you haven't contacted AppleCare, that's why I urge people having issues to do so.

It's only in that way that commonalities will be revealed to Apple's engineers.

Thanks for your advice. I raised a bug with Apple weeks ago.
