Auto Save Not Working

Having a problem with auto save not work because the document is on a volume that does not support "permanent version storage". Is there a solution to save documents in this case? The only option I have is to dupliate the doucment over and over which is very ugly...

Test with Pages; apperently NFS is not supported as a "permanent version storage" thus auto save doesn't work and there's no other way to save other than duplicate.

Is there a way to disable auto save / versioning? Shouldn't the application default back to the older method of save if file system doesn't support auto saving?

Hallo,

I'm having a similar problem with versions on documents that are stored on a Lacie 2Big Network drive (ethernet connected, RAID 1). While working on a document for a longer time, I do have access to versions of the document, however, when I close the document, then I get the error message. The most recent version of the document is stored, but I have no more previous versions of that document.

I didn't check if autosave is working. As soon as I did, I let it know.

As a workaround, I created a sparse disk image formatted using HFS+ and store the image on the NFS volume. That works, but it's less than ideal as your disk image is accessible to all users when it's mounted.

I'm having a problem with this too trying to save from a MBP to a disk connected to a shared iMac. The weird thing is that the disk is formatted/partitioned with "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" and the iMac can save versions to the disk, so it works locally, but it won't work over the network.

I tried with a USB drive connected directly to a iMac and versioning and autosave are working fine. Then I attached the same USB drive to the USB port of my Time Capsule. When I first opened the document, the versions where there. When I changed the document and then tried to close again, the error message occured and all previous versions were lost. Weird behavior.

No solution found so far.

Just tried with USB drive formatted using FAT; same issue as one would expect. So only formatted drives using HFS+ seems to be supported.

I have the same problem with documents stored on either MobileMe or Dropbox. I make changes on a Lion Mac, and then I open the document on a Snow Leopard Mac, and the changes aren't there!

Please: has anyone in this topic tested with AFP service provided by Lion Server?

Suggesting incompatibility with networked environments may be a little premature 😉
