Mail in OSX Lion : pop not OK

Really great scandal!

Anyway try to change into the option APOP. It works on my mac.

I upgraded to Lion the other day.

Had the error you guys mentioned in Mail 5.0 for my Scarlet POP account (Send OK, Receive NOK).

Don't know exactly what happened a few moments ago, I didn't touch anything and I didn't download any fix at all.

But it seems I am starting to receive emails for my Scarlet POP account in Mail 5.0 now.

So for me, the problem is solved. Hope yours is too.

Same here with Fibertel ISP from Argentina. Only happens with POP, SMTP works fine.

Please give us some response.

Scarlet Belgium already fixed the problem.

Maybe you're doing something wrong? I boot in and out of 10.6 quite regular.

I am in the U.S. and I cannot pop (recent) from gmail. When I go out of recent mode, it still will not pop. I have tried apop, setting it up from scratch, it is already on port 995 and ssl. It will not pull it down.

Eh? I don't know what that means.

In a nut shell, pop doesn't work with gmail. The "recent" comment is the ability to pop it without deleting from the server. you can use recent:username@domain.com (with gmail) and with my main computer I straight pop it to allow it to delete from the server. I have tried it without the "recent:" to straight pop it and I get nothing either way. I am imapping until this is resolved, which makes it ugly. If they do not resolve it somewhat soon, I will have to migrate to somethihng else and spend a day reorganizing, rewriting rules, etc - I am hoping to avoid this.

I am opposite of your opposite:

Mac Mail CANNOT send mail from home [even from me .mac address]. I use Verizon FIOS for internet. Receiving is ok, but it won't send.

When I go to work, which is a University, the mail seems to work fine.

Any thoughts?

I am now officially blowing off Mail 5.0. I have tried everything mentioned here with no pop working on my main iMac. Strangely, on the iMac my wife uses pop works just fine, and the settings are identical. I therefore must conclude that there was a glitch in the download of Lion on my iMac, but not on hers. I may be deluded in my concluding, but I will try and download and reinstall Lion once more on my machine.

If that doesn't work I'm going back to Tbird until I see no more complaints about Mail 5.0 on this forum. I'll then come back to mail. At my age I can't afford the aggrevation. BTW, when I set up T'bird a few minutes ago it worked fine first time. You'd think that a huge outfit like Apple, that generates billions o'bucks would be able to program an app like mail, wouldn't you?

BTW, here's a little quiz in species identification nomenclature for anyone who wants to try it: If the plural of mouse is mice, then it must follow that the plural of spouce is spice, N'est-ce pas?

Receiving mail from Scarlet pop account is ok now.

No software correction needed.

The same in Spain with accounts of the University, the server POP, login and password is OK but Mail not work

On Lion as well. Receiving messages on Mail, but can't send, even though I am entering (repeatedly) correct smpt. Can't figure this out at all. Working on iMac, and have been thinking about buying an iPad, but won't do so unless I can be sure Mail will work properly. My normal mail processor is Outlook, part of Office 2011 for the Mac. Very annoying this.
