Lion mail client - gmail on exchange

Has anyone been sucessfully able to set up their gmail accounts in Lion via the Exchange server method (like what's popular on iPhones) ?

I tried, using the same settings that work on the iPhone (user: email address, password, server: m.google.com) but Lion doesn't seem to like this. Says something about an invalid exchange email address or something like that?

I'd prefer to have my gmail (cal/mail/contacts) set up through Lion via this Exchange method, if possible.

Any ideas or experiences from others on this query?

Cheers,

No way, until Google includes desktops to their internal list of supported devices for Exchange service.

I've had an iPhone and iPad for awhile now and they both work great -- I get callendar and contact and email sync with gmail...but OS X's mail client in snow leopard and lion will not do this? That *****. I don't get why they won't support ActiveSync on their desktop mail client but they will on their mobile devices...I just got a new macbook air -- for all intents and purposes, it's a mobile device! Damnit all.

I know everyone says "just use imap" -- but that's not a solution.

ActiveSync owns imap 100 times over.
