Lion Mail doesn't work with yahoo mail (@ymail.com)

jretana01's solution appears to have worked for me. It's holding down the dang Option key so that you can change the account type to POP3 that made the difference. Otherwise, Mail was automatically selecting IMAP and not letting me change it.

Hold down that Option key to click "continue" instead of "create".

Yahoo.co.uk works for me in mail,calendars and contacts but no in ichat.It was working last week but no it disconnect after a few seconds of go online.If i am sing in in yahoomsn applications it log out because say i connect in another location but in a few seconds of sing in in ichat it disconnect again ..

Well yeah I can get pop to work too, but Mail keeps nagging me for yahoo imap password after Lion wakes up, which is what I want to use. Yahoo is always having issues with services, so I will wait until this is figured out and won't give two turds if it isn't. Gmail imap services ftw.

After this i can send and receive mails without any problems. 🙂

I have a Yahoo business account, so instead of entering "plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com" in the Incoming Mail Server field, I used pop.bizmail.yahoo.com, and instead of entering plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com in the Outgoing Mail Server field, I used smtp.bizmail.yahoo.com.

So glad I finally got it to work.

This solution has one huge problem; it is POP instead of IMAP.

The problem is that when you read with POP, you remove the emails from the server and store them locally, while with IMAP the emails are left on the server. This is okay if you only use one device for your email, but I personally use an iMac, MacBook, iPhone and iPad. This means that whichever device grabs the email first is the only one that sees is, and it also means that your iPhone and iPad must download the email when they see it.

Maybe I am wrong about this, but this is my understanding. As such, all my email accounts use IMAP.

As it happens though, my account was deactivated because of lack of use. The only reason I've set it up is because Lion automatically detected the address and started using it, and I decidedto repair it to stop the annoying pop-ups. Re-created the account, and everything if fine now.
