Finder keeps prompting a 'Restore Windows'

Thanks! this fixed my issue. For the record I had been using AppZapper to delete apps when this happened, it probably needs an update for Lion.

I have the same problem. Finder stuck in restore windows loop. I've tried a lot of things, nothing help me ...

Any reason you're not following the advice that the rest of us followed, namely:

open a terminal window and enter:

sudo find / -name ".DS_Store" -depth -exec rm {} \;

This is getting annoing, i tried everything!

If you use SugarSync, their latest update (1.9.34) has been cited by some as causing the finder to crash repeatedly on a loop. None of the above solutions worked for me, but quitting out of SugarSync and then downgrading to v1.9.28 cleared the problem for me.

A big, BIG thank you, here. That turned out to be exactly my problem. I'll check in with the guys at SugarSync to see if they're aware of the issue and what they can do to fix it.

That Terminal trickery worked for me .. thanks..

sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash/

The command in Terminal:

sudo find / -name ".DS_Store" -depth -exec rm {} \;

worked for me... think apple should make a "rebuild the desktop" shortcut.

I had the same problem one of my "project" accounts in 10.7.5.

I logged into my "home" account, found this solution

sudo find / -name ".DS_Store" -depth -exec rm {} \;

let it run for 15 minutes or so, and then it finished (with a few "is not a directory" messages), logged back into my project.

This time, when the "rebuild desktop" message came up, i clicked "forget about it" and things worked smoothly. PROBLEM SOLVED ... We're happy campers again.

Ok, I've also have this problem with Finder Bouncing and a window flashing. It happend when I copied a game to the desktop. But after a while the bouncing and flasing stops, but when I press the Finder or something, it starts again.

i have tried so many things, and now the Terminal-thing. But when I shall type in my password it doens't work. Nothing happens. If I press enter I can type in my password, but it doens't respond then.

Hmm... I managed to eject my external hard drive, and now the trash seems to be empty, but I can't open it and I can't open Finder.

EDIT: But hey wait. Now I can... I'll restart my computer and see what happens.

EDIT2: Ok, the problem is still there. Why would a computer just heal?

I don't know how, but my Mac works now. I tried everything, and then it almost worked, so I took a shot and restarted my computer and then it worked! I lost everything on the desktop, though. I did a backup, but I'm afraid to use those things^^ When I restarted it was almost like when I started the computer for the first time, so I had to install some things again, but programs like Logic and Office was still there!
