Hey guys, so I ordered two cables from monoprice.com: one is a thunderbolt to hdmi adapter (much like the moshi one that apple sells), and the other was simply a thunderbolt extender. The thunderbolt extension cable connected to my old minidisplayport to hdmi (one cable, the ones that got pulled from the market), did not work at all, the computer and tv wouldn't recognize anything. I tried the old cable by itself and was still getting at least video (no audio like in Snow Leopard). Maybe it's a bad cable or who knows, maybe that just doesn't work, don't have any other displayport cables to try it with.
NOW, tried the thunderbolt to hdmi ADAPTER, hooked it up to my tv with an hdmi cable and guess what? AUDIO! Yes I had done the pram and the other resets before, so I can't say for sure if that helped or if it's just the cable. My hunch? I think they somehow tweaked something in the drivers to only allow a certain type of spec for displayport/thunderbolt and hdmi. Anyone who wants to order the monoprice adapter, go on their website, it's like $3 or so and it definitely works with Lion. I have a feeling that this issue won't be "fixed" since it might have been a conscious decision on their part to exclude certain specs of these cables.
I'm on my iPhone and I'm too lazy to go through the thread, but has anyone gotten a displayport/thunderbolt to hdmi cable (one cable, no adapter) to work with audio on Lion? If nobody has then I might be right, otherwise it's anybody's guess as to why certain cables work and others don't (when they all worked under snow leopard). Any thoughts?
