WIFI frequently disconnect after upgrade to Lion

I just came on here to report exactly the same problem. My MacBook Pro has spontaneously disconnected from our Airport network and needs to be manually reconnected. This problem has started happening since I installed Lion on it. Previously, I've had Snow Leopard and never had this problem. My iMac still has Snow Leopard and its connection to wi-fi is rock solid. Would love to hear a solution.

I should clarify that this happens repeatedly. Once would be no big deal.

Same problem here on both Macs I am running after installing Lion.

No problems with Snow Leopard before!

No problems with iPad 2 and iPhone 4 on the same Wifi network either.

Go to Network in System Preferences, under Wi-Fi, click Advanced, and remove all prefered networks and then reconnect to your desired Wi-Fi. and also go to proxies tab uncheck use passive FTP mode. its works fine for me.

I found a fix, at least for my new iMac.

Zap the PRAM. Restart your machine and then hold down COMMAND OPTION P R. Wait until you hear it chime like it's starting up again. Keep those keys pressed and let it chime one more time, then let go of those keys and let your machine start up.

Ever since I did that a couple days ago, I haven't had one disconnect. And I was having at least 8 a day.

This worked for me too! My wifi connection used to drop every minute. But after I tried this, it hasn't dropped so far (It's been 20 min). Thanks!

Thank you, Mudflap! I have been going crazy trying to stop my MacBook Pro from constantly disconnecting and applying "fixes" or advice, for the last year and a half.

Your PRAM trick did it! 😁 Apple should pay you for this trick because I know allot of people are having the same problem as I did.

Hi,

Try changing your wifi router channel to 11. It could be signal interferences with your neighbours wifi router.

So far it works on my Mac OS X 10.6.8. I've tested it running smoothly for hours....

Had the same problem. The problem is not the OS, the problem is the router probably has old firmware.

SOLUTION:

Click the antenna symbol.

Open Network Preferences.

Select your wi fi connection then click Advanced (lower right).

Select TCP/IP from the list at the top.

Under Configure IPv6.

Change from Automatic to Link-Local only.

Click Ok.

Then click Apply.

Done. Enjoy!

I have already fixed the issues by changing the router channel frequency to 11.

Well, I hate to be a pain in the bu@@, however I have had the same issue as many folks with the wifi disconnecting when the IMac wakes up. All this happened after my upgrade to Lion. The internet is full of fixes, including going into files and deleting reinstalling the os, etc. My router is current technology and is functioning perfectly.

The whole reason I purchased Mac products was to get away from techinical issues, conflicts and config problems which are common in Windows PC's. I just want the thing to work without having to perform risky file system tasks.

With so many folks having similar problems,what is wrong with Apple --that they can't develop a simple patch to fix the problem of the wifi disconnecting on its own.

I wish there was an easy way to reverse the Lion upgrade (just like your can uninstall a Windows upgrade).

I also own a Macbook Air with Snow Leopard, a Windows based PC, Ipad, and I phone-- and not one of them has this problem with connectivity to my router.

Come on Apple---you have the cash on hand and the resources to fix this problem. As a leader in this field, you should be embarrased by all the chatter relating to this issue.

As someone who posted to complain of this issue earlier, I do have to say that the problem seems to have cleared itself up over time. I didn't do anything other than install the updates to Time Capsule and to OS X Lion and over time, the prblem just went away.

You are correct. Previous updates did not correct the problem, but the update that came in today corrected it.
