Can't open network share

I've just upgraded to Lion and now it seems I can't connect to my NAS. I hit ⌘-K then in the server address I type in

smb://files
, as I would usually do. It thinks for a bit, then shows up in Finder with a red dot next to it.

Trying to open it gives the error:

The folder "Volume_4" can't be opened because you don't have permission to see its contents

I can view the files in Terminal without problem though!

Als-MacBook-Pro:Volume_4 al$ ls -lAeO@ /Volumes/Volume_4/
total 200
-rwx-wx-wx 1 al staff arch 15364 3 Apr 16:47 .DS_Store

drwxrwxrwx 20 al staff - 16384 22 Jul 2010 files
drwxrwxrwx 5 al staff - 16384 16 Sep 2010 multimedia

I can also view and edit files from there.

Why can't I browse with Finder?

..and now a few months after still the same issue. Does anybody know if the afp issue is going to be solved any time soon by apple? After smp here goes afp as well. Instead of "it just works" we're getting "it just won't work"..thanks apple.

I personally don't want to have to go to the terminal to be able to activate functionalities apple should have provided me with in the first place, nor want to have to rely on 3rd party software or have to spent hours and hours googling to try to make something work (that's very windows-like).

Thanks to all for providing the information presented in this thread.

I have a user who upgraded his Mac to Lion and now cannot access the shares on a Windows 2008R2 server. I've had them try CIFS and SMB and neither works for them.

I've tried it with a brand new Mac PowerBook Pro that came with Lion from Apple and it works just fine. I'm wondering if this is a problem that is limited to systems that were UPGRADED to Lion as opposed to originally built with Lion.

Anyone else seen this?
