How to uninstall Safari 5.1

I went back in Time Machine to midnight (before I updated Safari) and replaced Safari.app with 5.0.5 that was there before. It seems to work!

I have created a new account before i deleted the original one and Safari was working perfectly on it but didnt work on the original on at all

do you still think deleting my account would be wrong?

NOTE: I have packedup my Data and deleted my account by my self at home nobody deleted it for me!!

I dont know. I would need to know the whole situation. Did Apple try to reinstall 5.0.5 for you in the 4 hours that you were there? Apple will create a new user for everyone regardless of what the problem is because its the quickest way to get you out the door.

If safari was slow and pages werent loading like the OP said, id say prob was Safari 5.1 and not your user settings.

Another poster, Gerald, just said he did it that way & it's working fine. So obviously the Apple guy is wrong, or Gerald is hallucinating, no?

i have a copy of 5.0.5, can i just delete 5.1 and drop 5.0.5. back in?

No. You'll create bigger computer problems if you write over Safari 5.1 with 5.0.5. System files have changed with Safari 5.1, which will be unreadable by v 5.0.5.

I'm not sure or confident about the Time Machine approach mentioned by others here. IMO, the best approach is to reinstall Snow Leopard via your DVD Installer.

Once Snow Leopard is reinstalled, run the 10.6.7 Update Combo, (download this update to your computer before running the reinstall), which includes Safari 5.0.5.

After the Update Combo is finished, open Software Update in the Apple Menu and download and install 10.6.8, plus any other updates appearing there (other than Safari 5.1).

When finished, open Disk Utility found in your Applications>Utilities folder. HIghlight your HD on the left and select on the right panel "repair permissions". Once complete you ought to be good to go.

Other post are saying that you can just do the 10.6.8 combo update again and that will bring you back so you can reinstall safari 5.0.5. No one is saying that you have to completely reinstall SL. That would be rediculous (not suprising) and im not doin that.

I'm running OS X 10.6.8 and simply replaced Safari 5.1 with my copy of Safari 5.0.5. This worked out fine with no need to do the 10.6.8 combo again.

I also just tried the webkit nightly build of Safai and so far it seems to have corrected the problems I was having with Safari 5.1. I'd post the " webkit nightly build" link, but last time I posted a link the mods slapped my wrist. Perhaps you can Google it if you'd like to try it.

I recently reinstalled the 10.6.8 combo update because I wanted to go back to Safari 5.0.5 because 5.1 was giving me lots of problems. 10.6.8 combo worked fine and Safari 5.0,5 is back and works great. Repaired permissions but Software Update tells me there is no new software. That is wrong. I should have a few updates available including obviously Safari 5.1. I deleted cache and Software Update preferences but it still says there is nothing available.

Anyone know how to completely clear out Software Update so it will scan my drive for new software? There must be a file to delete that I am missing.

Sigh. Big sigh, from a non-techie. I know how to set the home page in preferences. I've downloaded 5.1 also. The preference won't stick. I've tried google, and other sites, it just opens in nothing. And I tried to run some videos on a construction material site, not working. I honestly don't know if I'm going have the chops to figure out how to uninstall 5.1. I just thought I'd add my list of what's wrong---

for me i am running windows 7 32bit version and looked around through my firewall settings and managed to find the solution through my registry.

i am still trying to find a solution on mac but if you do know how to reset this on airport or whatever you mac experts call it use and post it

here's the bottom line: open command prompt in administrator mode and type netsh winsock reset, it will reset and then restart pc your safari 5.1 will work.

to open command prompt

1. click start
2. type in search box cmd
3. right click
4. select run as administator
5. if a box comes up which says "do you want to allow the following program make changes to the computer?" select yes
6. you may need to put the admin password in ask your admin
7. command prompt will be open

this is just for people who do not know how to open command prompt i expect that you do🙂🙂🙂😁

And exactly which problems would those be? If every piece of Safari (any version) is deleted, and a new version is downloaded/installed, exactly what problems are going to occur?
