I too am having a problem with printing (to Canon MX870) from (standard) Photoshop CS5 when running Lion. The Adobe print dialog's "Print Settings" button doesn't do anything and same goes for the "Print" button. I have read (I think) pretty much everything in this Discussion board on the subject and have tried:

1. Installed Java Runtime

2. Installed Java Essentials

3. Verified these latest Java installs in Java Preferences app.

4. Unchecked "Font Preview Size" in Photoshop Preferences-Type

5. Reset the Print system (Option with the minus key in Sys Prefs-Print Panel

6. Reinstalled Canon drivers from Canon web site (v2.6)

7. Added another printer to my printers list

8. Run Verify Disk in Disk Utilities -> no errors

9. Repaired Permissions

10. Trashed my Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings/Adobe Photoshop CS5 Prefs.psp

None of the above measures has worked. I still get the error:

'Could not print “filename” because of a disk error.'

I can print to the printer from other apps, including Dreamweaver CS3 & CS5, Preview et al, but not Illustrator CS3 (which just hangs for a minute before crashing, but I seldom use it and it's been flaky for months!)

I thought of clearing a cache somewhere but am not sure which cache where to clear ...

Anyone have any similar frustrations or magic fixes? Thanks in advance!

In regards to CS5 and OSX Lion.. I have a 15-inch MBP, 2 GHz, 4MB.. My problem up to now has been that

the operating system worked fine, but as soon as I started to work in my CS5 suite, InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, it reguraly stopped and spun to think.. It also felt quite sluggish when in those apps...

I just updated to my Lion to 10.7.2 and now all my CS5 a working in blistering speed.. Startup of InDesign, 5 secs, Photoshop about the same.. Font's works fine. No more stalling to think etc..

Whatever that update contained, seems to have ironed out issues with Abobe suite...

I hope this works for you guys...

I'm having a similar issue. But I'm running 10.7.2 and Photoshop 12.0.4 and I can't get anything to work in Photoshop. I just get a program error message. I actually opened a thread about it ( https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3387524?answerId=16372534022#16372534022 ) before I found this thread. But the answer to my question's not answered here, either, I'm afraid.

This is a big issue for me as I pretty much live in Photoshop...

Ok, this solution worked for a day and now the same issues. I have a MBP 17 I7 and have installed the "java for lion" and also went into preferences and corrected the "Font Preview". It worked that day and now nothing. What is happening is when I open a file into PS CS5 Suite if it is a raw file the raw dialog pops up with the image, then once I choose open, the layers pallat shows up with the image and the layer but the image is nowhere to be found. I am also having this issue with PSD files that I created yesterday while the software was working. Same issue. I open the psd, the layers show up with in the layers tool but no image!!

Anyone have any other suggestions? I have done tons of research on many message boards and am having a hard time finding the resolution.

I had the exact same problem as CAF - it just appeared after having my printing work fine from CS5 for ages. I have a MacBook Pro 2.66 Hgz Intel Core i7 running OS 10.6.8 and with 8 Gb 1067 Mhz DDR3. The "cannot print 'filename' because of disk error" started appearing regardless of whcih of three printers I tried. I could save the file and then reopen and print from Preview or other programs, so it was specific to Photoshop CS5.

My mac is 'managed' by my work IT department even though I have administrative privileges. When my problem arose, IT came in and tried lots of thing without success. When the IT folks logged in to my mac, CS5 printed fine to the same printers suggesting it was a problem linked to my login profile - and therefore a print preference issue. Still they couldnt find a fix. I had them reinstall Photoshop (since they won't give employees the disks for the software even if they paid for them - yes, another issue). This did not fix the issue.

I have seen that a number of folks have had this issue but have not seen a firm fix mentioned anywhere but lots of Adobe dissing (as well as passing the buck to Apple). So I was please to see the post from CAF with a link to the Adobe solutions page - and wanted to confirm that Solution #1 worked for me as well. I did not think this would do anything as I (as well as IT) had tried changing the color management options without luck. But they key seemed to be opening the Print Settings after changing the Management Options - but I didnt change anything in the Print Settings, I just pressed "Save". And wow - the problem was finally fixed. Awesome!

Thanks CAF - much appreciated.

Now... how to replace our IT team....!!!!
