2 Lion Problems: Waking from Sleep Doesn't Go to Wifi Network; & Can No Longer Finger Swipe in Firefox to Move Backward/Forward

I hve a late 2009 iMac at home that I've upgraded to Lion. So far, there are only 2 issues that I'm having:

1 - When I wake the iMac from a long sleep, it doens't automatically log into my wifi network. I have to drag the mouse up to the menu bar, click on the signal icon and choose my wifi network. A few tiems yesterday, the computer stopped recognizing the network while I was in the middle of surfing. Haven't had that in a while, but the inability to log in directly after waking up remains.

2 - I use Firefox to surf. I can no longer move backwards and forwards between pages by swiping left or right. It works in Safari, but not in Firefox. Is that a new functionality that has to be rebuilt into Firefox because of Lion?

Happening here too. Lion upgrade with everything up to date (just checked) and we do use Time Machine. And when I have noticed the problem, Time machine is usually attempting to backup.

However mine shows no connectivity in the airport icon. The bars are greyed out. It shows my network in the drop down list but selecting it doesn't do anything. Even going to "join other network" doesn't do anything when I select from the list there. I end up having to restart and then everything's peachy. It connects just fine without me doing anything else.

I have tried turning wifi off and back on, without success.

1. Firefox is responsible for fixing issues with Lion. The features that are not working is because they did a crappy job updating it or have not made a lion compatible version yet. You should not be calling Apple out for Firefox, Safari works great with all of the features. Plus Firefox is slow as ****, when in its infancy it used to be so much better, now its pretty and as bad as Internet Explorer. Chrome is way better than FireFox ANY day.

2. WiFi issues are being HEAVILY investigated. Apple is capturing and collecting as much useful data as they can. When you guys install a new OS you get 90 days of free phone support.... why whine and complain here and talk to one of Apple's advisors? Where we know the issues and we get the information to the engineers that can fix these issues.

That's the problem with this website.... this is a free tool for Apple customers to come on here to speak with eachother and try to help resolve eachothers issues. Apple advisors typically don't support here, they just MONITOR they dont collect real data from here unless someone actually provided professional log information or doing the smart thing.... call 1 (800) 275-2273. 90 days free troubleshooting,,,, take advantage of it... that data is what we collect. Your whining and flaming on these boards is just a waste of cyberspace.

I have solved my problem but am posting here so that I can register the same issue with the WIFI connection post-Lion if Apple scans these threads. My Mac wouldn't connect to my WIFI automatically. So I just set up Time Machine again and now it does. Would have preferred not to have had to do it but it was fairly simple and solved my issue.

We came to see if anyone had any answers. Something wrong with that? Some people don't have time to sit on the phone, because it's easier to leave a message like this. (you can walk away at any time to do what you have to do, which you can't if you are on the phone).

I did find that if time machine didn't try to back up when my machine woke up, it didn't happen. And oddly enough, time machine was trying to back up at those times when it did happen, when it was not plugged in, and time machine is set not to back up unless the machine IS plugged in. Strange.

I haven't had it happen the last few days, not sure why. I haven't updated anything.

I called Apple support - I have full, 3-year paid support and use it when it's appropriate. The Apple technician took me through a lot of stuff which did not fix the problem.

I post here because there are a lot of very bright people on the forum who frequently have more good information than what is supplied to the Apple techs. Not looking for a free ride, just trying to solve a problem.

Agreed it does seem to be getting worse. Mine isn't quite every few minutes, but often when I don't use the computer for awhile but leave it awake I run into the same issue.

And to Miksa that's part of what these forms are for, to see if we can work together to solve these issues in combination with talking to Apple. Also, Apple does keep an eye on these to see what bugs are causing the biggest headaches, even if they aren't responding to them here.

Two days ago I checked for updates. One update was available (didn't check what it was/is intended to fix). I installed the update and have not had a problem since. I've left my Macbook Pro on all night with the monitor open and closed, tapped the spacebar to wake it up and no problem immediately connecting to my wifi network. I've turned it off, turned it back on 2, 3, 4 hours later and no problems. No searching for my wifi network, no loss of connection in the middle of doing something, etc. I have no idea if the latest update fixed the problem but just thought I would pass on the info.

Jiva might have posted the answer above, after first writing 3 paragraphs about what didn't work ;-)

Jiva: "what did work is deleting the wi-fi service from the network system pref pane and then add it again."

I just did this and as far as I can test right now it's working for me.

I also added a new DNS server to my list of servers (8.8.8.8, Google's public DNS), which has also been reported as fixing these related issues. That could also have been (part of) the solution.

Apple Tech support had me delete the WIFI service also. It worked for about a day then back to the same old frustration.

I can't imagine what impact DNS changes would have. The problem is authenticating with the local AP, which happens long before any DNS lookup is performed.

I applied the latest "security update" yesterday. It disables Diginotar as a trusted CA, something I did manually a week ago! I don't know if Apple has included any other "stealth" upgrades in the file, as leonel seems to have evidence. It's to early for me to tell - I've only done the sleep/wakeup routine a couple of times since installing the upgrade.

Still frustrated.
