2 Lion Problems: Waking from Sleep Doesn't Go to Wifi Network; & Can No Longer Finger Swipe in Firefox to Move Backward/Forward

I hve a late 2009 iMac at home that I've upgraded to Lion. So far, there are only 2 issues that I'm having:

1 - When I wake the iMac from a long sleep, it doens't automatically log into my wifi network. I have to drag the mouse up to the menu bar, click on the signal icon and choose my wifi network. A few tiems yesterday, the computer stopped recognizing the network while I was in the middle of surfing. Haven't had that in a while, but the inability to log in directly after waking up remains.

2 - I use Firefox to surf. I can no longer move backwards and forwards between pages by swiping left or right. It works in Safari, but not in Firefox. Is that a new functionality that has to be rebuilt into Firefox because of Lion?

Well, no one wants to hear this, but after trying everything else I bit the bullet and just reinstalled thed OS from scratch. Not "Lion Recovery"; FROM SCRATCH. Wiped the drive, installed clean, copied docs and reinstalled programs one by one (avoiding a restore-from-backup that may have duplicated the original problem). Eerily reminds me of a an every-6-months ritual from my Windoze days. I'm disappointed that it ultimately took this method to get it fixed, but at least it now seems to be working properly.

My wife's 2011 MacBook pro was having this same issue after the Lion upgrade and I, too contemplated taking it back to the Snow Leopard. However, I managed to get it fixed.

First, I did a software update and brought everything up to current revision.

Next, I upgraded the MacBook rom (also from software update app).

Next, I reordered the wifi network order in network properties.

Now, when waking up, she no longer waits (and waits... And waits...) for her network to reconnect.

I hope that this helps someone.

Hi, first time posting in here and it seems like i might find an answer here. I have last years Macbook Pro (2.3Ghz i5) running on Snow Leopard, and since my last firmware upgrade, whenever i put my computer to sleep then open it up, clicking on my Firefox tabs is unresponsive for a few minutes, and usually after i click out the window altogether then back in.

thats #1, #2 is that my wireless network wont forget an incorrect network i tried connecting to when first moving here, and so everytime it wakes, it connects to that and i have to go in an manually select the right one. I've gone in and unchecked "remember this network" numerous times but it doesnt stick, it MAYBE works once.

please help!

I had the same wi-fi problem also. I followed the instructions below provided by DRINGER and the problem seems to be solved (at least for now).

This fixed the Wifi not connecting after waking up from sleep for me:

First make sure you have Lion 10.7.1 or above installed. (You can check by going toApple Menu > About this Mac)

  1. Open Spotlight by pressing CMD+Spacebar
  2. Type in System Preferences and click on it.
  3. Click on the Network icon
  4. In the left pane, select the "WI-FI" service
  5. In the bottom of that pane, click on the minus ( - ) button to delete the service
  6. Now click the plus( + ) button. A window should open, leave the defaults and clickCreate
  7. Click the Apply button
  8. In a few seconds, the Wi-Fi service should move to the top of the list
  9. Now try putting your computer to sleep and wake it up.

I think I've found an easy workaround to "sometimes won't re-connect wifi after sleep".

I wake up by pressing the power button.

Previously I was waking up by hitting spacebar.

I have a 2010 iMac with the latest Lion and all updates. Don't use time-machine. Don't have wired connection. Do use a bluetooth mouse.

Apple, I hope you're listening, as this might be a clue. I also have a 2011 Air, which does not have this problem -unless I have bluetooth enabled.

Turning off Bluetooth worked for about 48h (why??). However, in talking later with Apple Support, the technician had me turn off the computer, and then right after hitting the power button to turn it back on, hold the P, R, Command and Control (or Option, sorry I can't remember) simultaneously until the the computer chimed for the second time, then release the keys. That was several weeks ago and I haven't had this problem since.
