OSX Lion + 2011 iMac 27'' + Video = Freeze

Hello.

Got a brand new 27'' iMac, installed Lion. The machine freezes randomly when starting to play videos, either on Youtube, Quicktime, iTunes.

When it freezes, the mouse still works, but the machine doesn't respond to any command, requiring me to hit the power button and restart the computer.

Searched on kernel.log and system.log, and found no crash/error/message.

Anyone suffering from the same problem? The machine is pretty solid, been running some OpenCL kernels too and they are ok. It's only video decoding (possible on the GPU) that seems to freeze randomly.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7)

Same issue for me.

So, the Mac is running a complete restore of my iPad + Time Machine backup on the HDD which isplugged on an Airport Extreme.

The display suddendly fix, the mouse moves normally... and the restore of the iPad continues normally, when it comes to the end, the iPad restarts normally and activate ... so the Mac seems to normally operates, but there is no disply at screen. I think the bug should come from AMD drivers.

I will probably downgrade my Mac on Snow Leopard, and waiting for the 10.7.1 or 10.7.2 .

My Mac : iMac mid-2011, Intel COre i5 2,7 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD and AMD Radeon 6770M.

Sorry for my English, I'm French... nobody's perfect 😉

Last I spoke, the last few times they strongly suggested I upgrade... WOW, upgrade to something they said would work?... If I run my system they way I normally do, I'd be crashing ever 10-30 minutes... I have to work, may do so on the weekend - but is crashing GOOD for the system? They should supply CRASH boxes to send in manually when they don't pop up by themselves.

Responding to those suggesting memory/RAM issues, I've got 16GB of RAM on a new i7 iMac, w/ 2GB video RAM, so Flash/QuickTime should NOT be a burden (and can't blame Adobe, since HD QT does the same).

The 16GB is third-party memory, but I ran it with Snow Leopard for a month+ in the same exact usage without a hiccup.

Will give Apple a call soon to add my voice to the cause.

Have you opened Activity Monitor to see how your memory is sitting?

That's helped me throttle back, but to my surprise almost to a crawl, because if I push it, I will crash...

In the past OSes you could push to the limits and the OS would handle it... so far it feel for me like a lions welp baby cub just born, need some nurishment and teaching from Momma to handle things on it's own at least with y setup and my limited ram.

Hey guys--

So I went on ahead and followed advise from previous posts to call Apple Care... waited about 9 min before someone jumped on the phone.

So... as previously mentioned above, the very first thing he told me to do was to update Flash. So... for troubleshooting purposes, I followed his lead and updated the Flash Beta version for Lion. Since previous posters have already tried this and it didn't work... well, I'm guessing I'll be in the same boat.

He advised me to update Safari as well. So... again to follow his lead, I'll do that too. There was update posted last week.

I went to Youtube, and so far so good... for now.

I'm curious to see what Genius says too. I'll be watching this thread.

Lastly, I've purposly have been avoiding Youtube and not opening iTunes until this is resolved as hitting the Off switch every single time is usually not good for the computer.

I'm hoping Apple is watching this thread.
