Bluetooth not connecting after wake up from sleep

This morning, post Lion install, none of my bluetooth devices would connect automatically - keyboard, mouse, trackpad. I was left to plug in a wired keyboard and restart the computer.

Had never done this with Snow Leopard.

gtmagnet, I've been having a similar issue with bluetooth connectivity being dropped for my Apple wireless keyboard on my mid-2010 iMac. I did what you suggested and Console reported this:

Jul 25 20:38:46 Dales-iMac kernel[0]: [SendHCIRequestFormatted] ### ERROR: [0x0402] (HCI Inquiry Cancel) -- Send request failed (err = 0x0012 (kBluetoothHCIErrorInvalidHCICommandParameters))

Jul 27 16:44:44 Dales-iMac kernel[0]: [AppleBluetoothHIDKeyboard][getExtendedReport] getReport returned error e00002d8

Jul 27 16:44:44 Dales-iMac kernel[0]: [AppleBluetoothHIDKeyboard][getExtendedReport] getReport returned error e00002bc

Jul 27 16:44:44 Dales-iMac kernel[0]: [AppleBluetoothHIDKeyboard][getExtendedReport] getReport returned error e00002bc

Jul 27 16:45:06 Dales-iMac kernel[0]: [SendHCIRequestFormatted] ### ERROR: [0x0406] (Disconnect) -- Send request failed (err = 0x0010 (kBluetoothHCIErrorHostTimeout))

Jul 27 16:45:06 Dales-iMac kernel[0]: ### ERROR: send request failed (err=10)

Any idea what these particular error codes pertain to or where I might find the answer? Thanks in advance!

The errors that say "kBluetoothHCIErrorInvalidHCICommandParameters" are harmless and can be ignored. The "getReport returned error" errors are more serious; they indicate that the device is not responding to the requests for battery status and other messages. Typically this is a result of:

1) device in a bad state

2) device <-> host module firmware is in a bad state

however, these errors do not always mean the device is not going to work, per se, but it is indicative of a potential problem. If I could not get things working, I would:

1) turn keyboard off (hold powr button for 5 seconds)

2) power it on, and see if it starts working again

3) if not, SHUTDOWN the computer (restart is not sufficient) and see if things are working again

and see if that rectifies things.

Sometimes shutting down (and then restarting) the Mac or turning off the keyboard (and turning it back on) alleviates the problem. Sometimes these procedures do not help and the Mac, again, reboots into "safe mode".

I'm beginning to believe, from everything I've read, that there is an overall bluetooth issue in 10.7 that needs to be worked out.
