PowerPC applications no longer supported...Lion

I installed Lion today and when it finally installed, I discovered I was no longer able to open Sibelius 4 as "PowerPC applications are no longer supported".

I'm hoping that, as with every other upgrade that has eluded the Sibelius makers, they will provide an upgrade that sorts this, but I wanted to ask here to see if anyone else was having issues.

Thanks in advance!

Rosetta is no longer part of OS X beginning with Lion therefore all PPC apps will not work. They need to be updated to Intel based apps and if the product is no longer being developed an alternative will need to be found.

My eMedia Piano Method worked just fine until I updated for Lion. The same message popes up: "You can't open the application eMedia Piano Method because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."

Anyone has found a solution yet?

Thanx

The ONLY solution is to replace the app with something that is designed to run on Intel machines. I'm not familiar with the Media Piano Method however you should contact the developers to see if they have released a version for Lion or you will need to search for a replacement app.

Well my Psyk.Trk 3.0 CD isn't working because PowerPc is not supported since I updated to Lion. Is there a way where I can revert back to Snow Lepard because I need to use that application for an exam and than after change it back to Lion ?

Yes do a Google search and you will find lots of information on how to do it. However make sure you have at least one very solid backup. I would STRONGLY recommend making a clone of the HD using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner.

Going forward prior to doing an update do your due dilligence and also you may want to see if there is a replacement or update to the PPC app you have. This would be wiser than downgrading.

Also you can often just install Snow Leopard temporarily on an external hard disk while you do the migration to a new tool as needed.

In the future, always check what's compatible before upgrading, and always backup before upgrading with a clone so you can at least restore your system in event something unexpected is not compatible*:

You will need to update your PPC apps to Intel based products. I suspect your software is VERY old anyway and would benefit from updating. I know with MS Office for Mac you will need to buy Office for Mac 2011, you can usually find it discounted at Amazon. I don't really use Adobe software so I don't keep up to date with their upgrade policies so you should probably touch bases with them and look into the upgrade path. This is a tough pill to swallow however at some point you're going to need to updates these apps. If you can't do it now and do go back to Snow Leopard then I'd recommend upgrading as you can and then when your apps are ready to run on Lion upgrade to Lion.

If you do need to go back to Snow Leopard then look over the following articles on how to go about it:

I take totally responsibility. I should have read the pros and cons of Lion BEFORE purchasing and installing Lion.

I do not have time, money or inclination to upgrade all my PC applications. They were working fine just as they are. There no need to upgrade thiem It would be cheaper for me to kick Lion to the curb.

Two decades of using Apple products and this is the first time I am so very disappointed with their product.

Now ...... I just have to wait for someone to show me how to get back my Snow Leopard OS.

THIS IS THE LIST SO FAR OF WHAT NO LONGER IS SUPPORTED BY 10.7 OS.

THANKS- I AM REINSTALLING 10.6.8

I DONT HAVE A WEEK TO IMPORT ALL MY DOCUMENTS LET ALONE EVERYTHING ELSE

I DONT MIND SPENDING THE MONEY TO UPGRADE THE SOFTWARE WHICH HAS GOTTEN A LOT CHEAPER, BUT MY TIME ISNT FREE EITHER. AND A BETTER HEADS UP WOULD BE NICE OR AN EASY AND LESS TIME CONSUMING SOLUTION WOULD BE HELPFUL.
