WebKit2WebProcess.exe

I just installed the latest update to safari. Now it crashes almost right away.. I have it set up to open in top sites. I click on any page it goes grey to bring the page forward, then crashes. When I end program, I notice I have in my windows task manager under processes webkit2webprocess.exe. I've tried to open safari a couple times, only to have it crash every time. After trying three times, I have ended safari program, only to have three of these webkit2webprocess files still showing up on my task manager processes. What's going on?!

I have resolved all issues with Safari, WebKit2, iTunes, iCloud, and other Apple software on my PCs. The culprit seemed to be my anti-virus, Spyware Dr. with Antivirus. After upgrading to the latest version (2012), all is well again. I confirmed on PCTools discussion forum that the previous 2011 versions of Spyware Dr. with Antivirus was indeed incompatible with Safari and the other Apple software. Previous to upgrading Spyware Dr. I was unable to use Safari or even iTunes as it caused my CPU to max out. I was also unable to sign into iCloud, with the error there was a server error being reported from iCloud control panel.

Much relieved!

Hi

Are you 100% sure about your statement?

I use Kaspersky Anti-virus 2012, and I still have the same issues with

the WebKit2WebProcess.exe on newest Safari 5.1.2.

This is the final conclution I've come up with. On every single Safari update so far to Windows, the WebKit2WebProcess.exe problem is not solved. I think it has something to do with Windows framework and Flash player, and Apple don't seem to cooparate hundred percent with Windows on those services.

Get rid of Safari to Windows. Now I don't even understand why Safari is compatible with Windows and why it was until the WebKit2WebProcess.exe issue came up. I have now used Safari in 3 years on Windows, and in the past year this WebKit2WebProcess.exe is still crashing and is very annoying.

I just switched to Safari on my XP/Toshiba laptop computer. I was having the same problem and I think I found the fix. I have a number of links in the news feed on the menu bar. It appears that the default for the RSS feed is to check for new articles when you start up and every 30 minutes after that. This is likely done by the webkit2webprocess.exe. This appears to eats up all the cpu and stops everything else until completed. I went into the general setting preferences, clicked on the RSS feed options and set the automatic update to never. I don't seem to be having the problem anymore. If my general assumption is correct changing the setting or removing most of the links from your news folder should take care of the issue.

Your general assumption is not correct, but thanks for the advise. I use Windows Vista Ultimate. My RSS settings in Safari has always been turned off, and I still have the same problem with WebKit2WebProcess.exe.

The problem seems to be related to Java. If you deactivate Java support in the Safari settings, the error messages are gone (at least for me, using Safari 5.1.5, in Win XP SP3, german system). And honestly, who needs to run client-side "Java applets" in 2012?

Hi

There are two different settings for Java in Safari. Which one of them do you exactly mean?

Is it under security, enable Java and JavaScript? Sometimes I need Java when browsing the Internet, so what isn't necessary to run in with Java exactly? 😕

I am surprised to find that this issue is as old as it is. For what is apparently a common issue to be ignored for nearly a year is absurd.

I have been having this problem, and it's gotten progressively worse.

It's frustrating, but not a huge problem, for it to reset the webpages because of this error once in a while. It's a little more than that, when it starts happening every hour or two - and deletes the text I've entered on a page. But right now, I am totally unable to read my Yahoo mail, because it's contstantly resetting. Several other pages reset frequently (more than once an hour.)

I've defended Safari to my freinds, because the fonts are so vastly suprior to any other browser. I do a lot of reading online, and it's been a real boon for my eyes. However, until this issue is resolved, I have to consider Safari unusable.

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement.

To minimize the problem associated with webkit2web.exe, turn off "RSS" in Preferences. Click Preferences -> RSS -> don't check "Automatically update articles in" both "bookmarks bar" and "bookmarks menu".

Unfortunately that doesn't help. Those two settings have already been tested.

That sugggestion has also already been advised here in the thread, but thanks anyway.
