Lion installed but shutdown is much longer now? Ideas?

I downloaded Lion from the app store, and created a bootable version of lion an a USB stick, wiped my hd using snow leopard cd and disk utillity,to totally zero it out, then installed Lion from usb, then transfered my files from time machine backup. It was a bit of a long winded process, but worth it.

I got lion upgrade from app store when i upgraded, but I am unable to re-download it again to make a bootable version. There is no option to re-download it. Also, what steps did you take for a bootable usb? I see a few methods on here, and since it sounds like your way worked, I would like to do same. Thanks

edit: I found how to re download Lion by holding the Option key while clicking Purchased link in App Store header. So am now getting the installer for Lion again, then will make the USB and go forward with zeroing the drive and reinstalling and restoring from time capsule. Just wondering what you did for the bootable USB. Thanks again

yeah I just googled creating osx lion usb stick and theres loads of sites telling you how to do it, but if you have already installed it, I think you're pretty much stuck with it now because the image file is erased ounce you install it. Sorry😟

So you clicked App Store > Purchased and it lists them all in there and it gives you the ability to re-download previously purchsed apps? Ok, maybe thats where mine differs. I see *some* of my previously purchased apps in there (and Lion OSX is listed), however there is NOT the option to re-download it again. The "INSTALLED" button on the right is greyed-out.

A lot of solutions offered here in this thread including starting over with a wiped hard drive and reinstalling Lion. While this may remedy the problem I think this is taking a big hammer to a smaller problem. Sure it may fix the issue but the problem can probably be remedied with a little more troubleshooting. As I stated earlier in a previous post, I have two iMacs and the one that shuts down the fastest (5 seconds) is the older one that I upgraded Lion over Snow Leopard. The one that takes the longest is the new one that came with Lion installed. If anything, you would think it would be the other way around.

I must agree that a clean install fixes everything. It makes me wonder why Apple didn't do what it did with iOS 5: wipe > install > restore.

I did a clean reinstall of Lion and worked great for about two days and then started acting up again, shutdown hung again,and in the end I had to hold the power button down to shut it down, I really hope apple get this and other stability issues sorted out pretty sharpish, because at the moment I'm very tempted to go back to snow leopard!! Because Lion is becoming more and more like Windows Vista in that it seems to be a case of style over subtance and functionallity. which is a real shame because the whole reason I went over to a mac was because they just worked. Now the enjoyment of using my Mac has gone I'm doing the same thing as I did with crappy PC and that is every time I switch it on I'm waiting to see what goes wrong this time.

But thats what I did. Boot off OSX Lion DVD and did the option to zero the drive (this was after backup to time capsule). Installed Lion and during install, opted to restore from time capsule

all problems are gone. Apps open and close faster and run properly. Boot time is cut in half, shutdown in less than 5 sec.

Worth it. Ignore those on here to criticize your attempts to make your Mac right. I found the user "Kappy" to have extremely helpful posts, for example.

I finally fixed my slow shutdown on my new 27" i7 iMac. I looked in console and found two events that were occurrring each day at shutdown causing a "shutdown stall". It was stated as such in Console under System Diagnostic Reports. The two events that were causing the shutdown stall had to do with an HP printer I had on my home network. The two items were called HPEventhandler and HPIO Trap Monitor. These are part of the HP All-In-One Software. Once I uninstalled the software using the directions at this HP web page my shutdown went to about 3 seconds: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00652016&dlc=en &product=1146331

I have two other HP printers I use and they still print fine after following the directions above. I believe the drivers remain intact but the HP All-In-One software is removed. I didn't need it anyway.

If you have an HP Photosmart printer on your system and you are experiencing slow shutdown times, you may want to have a look.

I uninstalled the HP All-in-one software shut down time of lion 10.7.2 reduces to 2 sec from 20 secs.

But how am I supposed to scan without the software????

You could use the "image capture" software which should be located in the "Applications Folder" and scan and save files, then open them via "Preview"

my macbook use to take ages to shutdown, even startup, my brothers did as well which he has an SSD, we started up our macbooks while holding CMD V , both macbooks hang on parallels kexts which caused our slow boots, when we shut down it again hung on parallels, so if you dont know whats making it hang you can find out easily through verbose boot.

The thing I would do is make a backup of your machine via time machine or carbon copy cloner. then re-install lion and parallels and reboot and see if it hangs again, if it does'nt and everything works ok, you can restore your systems files and folders via the migration assistant and your time machine/carbon copy cloner backup.

I've never used Parallels myself, but heard about it being a bit tempermental, so it could be that, thats causing the hang. Sorry I can't be of anymore help than that.😕
