MBP & Lion with external monitor crashes!

Yep, same problem here and with the same symptoms. MBP 15 plus Dell 24''. Always worked under SL.

I only did an update, no clean install. Anyone with a clean install having this problem?

I have the same problem. I have MBP 13" and it used to able to hooked up to 23" PHillips Monitor via displayport to VGI. But after installing Lion and after everything connected, my external monitor does not work everytime I close my MBP. Before with S leopard, when I close my MBP and wake the comp using bluetooth keyboard (apple), i was able to wake the MBP and the external monitor displays. But now (Lion) when I close MBP, external monitor shows this error message "Cannot display this video mode, change computer display input to 1280 x 760 @ 60 Hz". Then I opened MBP and I changed the display to 1280 x 760 but when I close MBP, the external monitor shows the same error message.

MBP 13" 2.26Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 gig of ram.

Same issue: Macbook Pro 2011, Lion, External Samsung monitor.

Completely unable to wake computer using touchpad or bluetooth keyboard while in clamshell mode, and often fails on booting when an external monitor is connected.

Hoping that 10.7.1 resolves the issue. This wrecks the set-up I've been using very happily for quite a while.

Anyone have a solution?

I've also got an MBP with a Samsung external monitor. It seems to be working for me now (I got it to boot with the external monitor), but I like to use JUST the external monitor when I'm at work. In SL, the clamshell worked just fine -- but with Lion, I keep getting really awful crashes (had to rebuild my Outlook database because of the last one)! It seems to be especially sensitive to Mission Control.

I tried to turn on the MBW with the external monitor attached, but same issue.

I had the same problem with a Macbook Air. A clean install fixe it but when I restored my applications, it returned. Seems like an application conflict error that's causing the syslog to go nuts.

It start to think that it must indeed be an issue with an application. The external monitor works fine with my MBP 13 on which I only have a few apps installed. Maybe we should try a safe boot and then see if it makes any difference.

Just hold the Shift key when you start up.

No problems in safe mode for me

Now, we only need to find out the one application that breaks it...
