Disk utility error. Can I install Lion instead??

I have a imac that is running Snow Leopard. Recently I have noticed that it was running a little slow so I decided to verify disk permissions and verify disk. The verify disk permissions went just fine, but errored out when doing the verify disk.

error message:

Disk Utility stopped verifing "Macintosh HD"

This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk.

I do not have/misplaced my original install disk... 😟

I was wondering if it is possible just to install Lion instead of fixing Snow Leopard.

If not, what other options do I have??

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

Bad idea. Installing software over a problem will not fix the problem - especially since the problem is with yoru HD.

You have a couple of options.

1. Find the software install DVD and run repair disk.

2. Use a third party disk repair program. DiskWarrior is very good - but pricey at about $90 US.

Hello

I have a simmilar problem on my MacBookPro as I misplaced my instalation DVD that allowed me to go from Tiger (the original operating system) to Snow Leopard. If I buy a new DVD can I buy the upgrade one (which is cheaper) to solve the problems or not ?

Idon't mind purchasing again the disc as long as I can then get Lion

Thanks

Mel
