Display brightness control & OS X Lion

I don't think the bightness control function keys problem has anything to do with the answers people have mentioned. I noticed it after one of the major updates that were installed after the first of this year. I do not have Lion and I do not have any of the software listed as having potential problems. I think there was a bug in one of the software updates that Apple hasn't acknowledged yet. Annoying but not much we can do about it. Has anyone talked directly to Apple about this? My paid warranty account has expired and I am not about to pay for the privilege of reporting an obvious bug especially now that I am convinced that Apple is responsible.

This is what fixed this problem for me:

1. System Preferences
2. Displays
3. Uncheck: Automatically adjust brightness

Now I can adjust the brightness from my Apple bluetooth keyboard without the brightness wigging out.

Both the slider and the "Automatically adjust brightness' Tick box have dissapeared in My recent update to Mountain Lion.
