Why won't mac recognize I am connected to network?

Network diagnostics shows everything is connected through wifi. However ichat, safari, mail, and even system update says I am not connected to the network. I know I am connected because the internet will work through firefox. This seems to happen after the computer goes to sleep sleep. The only way I can it working again is to restart the computer. Started happening after I installed Lion. Any ideas?

Mac OS X (10.7)

There is a problem with lion. No problems after upgrading my MacBook Pro, but my desktop, cannot connect to internet anymore!

I have to try to use firefox (didnot try that), but all other programs cannot connect, but looking at my system preferences it says my connection is fine, but somehow it will not connect to my isp (while my powerbook can using the same network). It does get an IP address though.

There were no problems before the upgrade 😟 (otherwise I could not download the installer)
