I had a problem with shared internet connection so i couldn't connect iPod touch to it.
The single solution I've found it's to use DHCP settings(not Static) on iPod.
Note I use firewall and channel is 11 (at default).
Additional information to my previous comment:
- recommend to use channel #2 due to #11 is unstable.
This is happening to me too. Internet sharing is barely working, I'll set up the airport options and other computers can connect, but they don't even get enough speeds to load a single web page. This is extremely frustrating- basically I have to keep my old imac around with Snow Leopard just to keep my network functional.
My issue is on a Mac Mini using Lion. I can not even see any channels to select from. Some people are reporting to just change from 11 to 3 or whatever, but mine has no channels in the pulldown.
they just had a 10.7.1 software update supposedly includes fixing Wifi bugs n stuff... but it never fixed this... well atleast its not working on mine... hopefully it works for some people... lemme know! still doesn't work for me.. pretty ****** right now...
I just updated to 10.7.1. Trying share internet with my iPod touch, it still didn't work.
When I look at those IP thing / gateway-whatever, it looks like Lion didn't give the correct adress.
To fix it try to update channel number, for example switch between 2 and 3. I know it's strange, but it working for me. And note the iPod touch should be connected to mac by DHCP. Working connection parameters looks like as below:
IP Address: 10.0.2.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router: 10.0.2.1
The subnet mask is 255.255.0.0 in iPod touch configuration is wrong and should be reconfigured by updating channel number. Good luck!🙂
Man, the update not only does not change anything on the internet sharing but he also messed up my audio trough hdmi...the audio stops and comes back every 10 seconds
Strange. It doesn't work. I connect through PPPoE. When I'm in SL, Internet sharing PPPoE to wi-fi was doing fine.
I also found someone shared another workaround, renaming Wi-Fi name into short one, also doesn't work for me but someone made it.
Sorry, I forgot where is the site.
Though I renamed it SM MBP, actually I'm using iMac 7,1 that produced around 2007 if I'm not wrong.
It's really strange.
I guess there are some important differences in configuration of shared connection.
For example, my wi-fi on mac has static address, Ithernet is configured by DHCP and so on
Well, what version of IOS is set on iPod touch? I use 4.3.5 IOS.
If you have previous version please update it at first else try to restart iPod touch.
I have no more ideas about the issue, sorry😟
Hey guys so here's a update.
I've been having the same problems with my internet crawling after upgrading to lion with both my wifi and ethernet cable, I think it has something to do with lion because when it connects to my router it destroys my iPhones wifi connection as well. I've talked to my ISP and the router company and they said everything is fine. So I was searching one night online for more people with the similar problem hoping for new solutions and I saw someone post that the Techtool Deluxe he had installed on his computer with snow leopard had been making his computer slow and the internet because it wasn't compatible with lion yet when he upgraded. So I remembered I also had Techtool Deluxe installed on my computer with lion. So I deleted it using AppCleaner (free) and rebooted and after that my internet stopped crawling and started running! My internet speed was fast again! And so far no slowdowns but I'm not sure if it's at its full speed compacity but I'm happy it's just not crawling anymore. I hope those with Techtool Deluxe and lion installed this works, and for the ones without Techtool Deluxe on their lion I hope apple fixes this fustration quickly because it's mind boggling.
I'm using the latest beta of 10.7.2 and still no fix to the 'Internet Sharing' issue. My worry is Apple is falling into the Microsoft trap, releasing untested OS with huge bugs. I remember the VISTA days as a developer, it's this that converted me to OSX.
Come on guys get it sorted. 😠
That changing to channel 3 thing worked for me. Thanks!
here its also not working. i mean i cant share my internet. I start internetsharing, from ethernet to wi-fi, and the device can connect, and I can see that a device connected to my network, but theres no internet. But sometimes, after a half an hour, or even more, the internet just starts, and from that time i can use it.
APPLE, PLEASE FIX THIS BUG!!!!
I'm sure that most people will not like this solution. I broke down and spent ~$80 on wireless router so I do not need to use internet sharing. No problems since. (I needed to update the firmware on the router.) It is a shame Apple broke a useful feature.
