"All My Files" Not showing all my flies

"All my files" only shows a few files. For example, under "music" the only thing(s) that show up are 12 songs from an album that I downloaded from Amazon.com. None of the other 12k songs I have on my Mac show up here. Also, none of my photos show up. None... at all. Also, none of my Word documnets show up. The list of things not listed goes on and non.

I checked Spotlight prefrences and I have everything checked under "search resluts" and nothing at all is listed under "privacy."

Any ideas on why things won't show up?

Thanks for the help.

I think part of my problem may be that my User folder isn't on my startup volume (I have two hard drives in my MacBook Pro - an SSD that holds the operating system and all of my applications, and a conventional hard drive that has my User folder.) This may be confusing the pre-built "All My Files" search.

AMF picks up most of my files that are on the User hard drive, so I think it looks in the User folder by default. But I've noticed that if I make a new "Smart Folder" in Finder, set the search space to "All My Files" and set "kind" to "PDF", it will only return results that are on my boot drive (the SSD). So the only PDFs that show up in the Smart Folder are the ones that are in my application folder, not the ones in my User folder.

Re-indexing Spotlight didn't improve matters for me.

iTunes music and iPhoto photos won't show up, because they are not "documents" in the regular sense. They are managed in shoebox applications, and don't adhere to the document model. For the user Mac OS X shows only the iTunes library and the iPhoto library as two huge "files".

Of course, in reality they both are ("special") folders, and Mac OS X only hides that from the user. So, to follow this simplification, you won't see your iPhoto pictures in the AMF list, because you are not to be concerned about the individual files that represent your photos. (Of which there may be more than one per photo, since iPhoto stores original files and edited files alongside, as well as thumbnail pictures, and metadata etc.) This way you can't accidentally mess with the underlying files of your media libraries (like deleting, moving, renaming them) and corrupt the integrity of said libraries.

I installed Lion on friday, but i deleted my private folder and had to do lots of backing up and another install of Lion. In my first install AMF showed everything in its right place. After second install now everthing shows as a document, not just my iphoto/booth documents but also tiffs and psds in folders on my account. I have tried to reindex, that has not worked either, for now I am going to use sort application as this is the the best sort system for me. I also have a problem with the reading list not showing in my safari bookmark bar, another reason why I think it's an install problem. I am going to do a clean reinstall and hope this sorts the problem out.

I too am not seeing images from my iPhoto library or music from my iTunes library in All My Files, but in my case something rather odder happened. After I first installed Lion, I opened a Finder window and saw AMF... with the images from iPhoto in there (but not the music from iTunes - just one music file that's not in the library). I was happily flicking left and right through them when suddenly - whoosh! - about half of them disappeared... and a moment later most of the rest went, leaving just one. All highly disconcerting! The pix are all there in iPhoto, and if I navigate to the iPhoto library folders in the Finder, there they all are. This behaviour led me to believe that the photos should be there in AMF, but vanished, and that the vanishing was the incorrect behaviour.

However, from reading this thread, and simply from thinking about it, it makes sense that AMF does not show the files in these libraries, because there are likely to be thousands of them, which would render it unmanageable. (Whether this is explicitly documented anywhere I don't know.)

So in my case the incorrect behaviour was probably allowing those images to 'sneak out' in the first place before some higher authority in there went 'Nooo! He's not supposed to see those - hide them, quick!' - as if I was a bit too quick off the mark and opened a Finder window before it had worked out that the images were in one of the 'special' places.

I can help you.

but I am not good at english.

so I am sorry.

anyway,

the solution is that edit your file which path is "/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/MyLibraries/myDocum ents.cannedSearch"

for example

I need to search my "data" partition.

it must be mounted in "/Volumes/data"

and do this
