Scroll Bar arrows Gone?
The verical scoll bar arrows are no longer there on OS X 10.7.
Any way in System prefs or Safari prefs to get them back?
Imac 20, Mac OS X (10.6.6), 10.7 installed

The vertical arrows are not a big a deal for me, but the horizontal arrows are critical! I write music in Finale, and there is now no way to move measure by measure! When I am looking at an orchestral score with measures everywhere, if it jumps 6 or 8 measures I have to stop and figure out where I am! This makes writing music take 10 times as long. I NEED THOSE ARROWS!!! Please! Someone make them at least optional!
I found that even though the arrows are not visible, clicking on the area on the scroll bar where they used to be (very close to the opposite ends of the scroll bar) still works as if the arrows were there. Clicking the area more towards the middle of the scroll bar produces a bigger jump.
Not sure what program you are using to get those results, but it doesn't work in Safari, Word or a dozen other programs I have tried. Clicking in the area you suggest takes the page either all the way up or all the way down.
I'm in the same boat with Finale. I have a mouse with a scroll wheel. You can scroll 1 measure at a time by holding Shift and using the scroll wheel. However, what used to take one hand now takes two. It's a huge step backward. The scroll arrows need to come back or a utility needs to be written. A trackpad is not a solution. There's another (Microsoft, I think) mouse that's supposed to come out where the scroll wheel can be clicked left and right that may be another solution.
I completely agree with everyone above. I just made the switch from PC to Mac and really, really, really want the arrows back in the scroll in Excel. I have a large excel file I am currently working with and have been switching back to my PC laptop to work on it to save me the frustration.
I agree with everyone, the lack of arrows is a real pain on any large document so I have taken Jardar's advice and submitted my feedback, thanks for the suggestion and the URL.
System preferences> general> Scroll bar - click "always" Mine is always on now after being frustrated with not having it. The lack of a delete button on the photo stream really irritates me though, as you are stuck with bad pictures. Apple's complicated solution to remove them didn't work for me.
All of us who have commented on this KNOW about the setting you suggest. We know that the "Scroll" bar is there...IT'S THE ARROWS THAT ARE GONE.
Im' a bass player and i use a foot mouse that clicks on the down arrow, when i step on it. I use it to scroll down sheet music. if i have to remove my hands from the strings it's a real backward step.
I need those arrows back!
hopefully for a hack
Absolutely miss the scrollbars. Bad idea apple. Uncle....
I totally agree. Major setback not having arrows for scrolling through large documents. If I knew they were removing them I wouldn't have upgraded!
This is a showstopper issue for me when scrolling large windows. It forces me switch to using the keyboard arrows to do a fine grained scroll operation on a large window. And using the arrow keys to scroll makes for a jumpier scrolling window which is harder to read.
I need to upgrade soon and this problem will be enough to make me switch back to MS-Windows.
I've submitted feedback on the http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html page.
I have thousands of messages in my Mail Inbox. Therefore, not having the arrows ***** because the scroll bar moves me down or up too far if I have not started from the top or bottom of the unread list. And usig the arrows on the keyboard just puts the emails in the already read category. Very frustrating.
It is looking more and more like Lion will be Apple's "Vista". M$oft must be chuckling to themselves...
Will Apple read these and fix the problem? Hmmm.... like they listened to all the cries from iPhone users to add a "Select All" and/or "Delete All" feature in mail?
LOL, yea right.
Losing the arrows was an arrogant move on Apple's part. If it ain't broke, don't fix it? Hello??

No, Apple probably won't read these, but that's not to say that they won't bring the feature back. None of us know what will be in future updates, and I think there are a couple of much bigger issues they are concentrating on first.
Comparing it to Vista is silly, and that old saying if it ain't broke, don't fix it would have us all using System 7 still. There was nothing broken when features such as Spaces, Safari, iTunes, The App Store & iTunes Store, Time Machine, Full screen features, force quit, etc. etc. were introduced, and look how people some people are so relient on them that they are howling down any changes to them. But if Apple didn't move forward with each OS we would be lucky to be able to connect to broadband Internet.
I would like the scroll arrows back as well, but using the trackpad is more than sufficient until or if the feature is ever returned.
